Two thin sheets of aluminum that sandwich a honeycomb plastic. http://www.signboards.com/Panel/alumalite/Index.asp fairly light weight, strong, and fairly cheap. a 4x8' sheet ran me $150. I didn't dyno before, but after with Conforti intake and software and 24lb injectors my RWHP was 227(273 flywheel using a 17% loss). I imagine that with a decent flowmaster or aftermarket muffler it might be better too. No, a friend did. He cut the top of the can off a stock 95 muffler, chopped out all the baffles and welded the top back on. It's pretty loud and very raspy. I bought a used Bimmerworld exhaust from one of their race cars which had the center "track pipe" and a double can Borla catback section (they looked sort of like glass packs). It was ungodly loud, it actually made me laugh when I first started the car. I traded the rear section with my friend for his modified 95 rear section. #7. suspension mod question - from mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 11:00:46 -0400 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: suspension mod question Group, This might be a loaded question, but here goes. Which change would give the biggest bang for the buck, 1) stiffer springs (in my case from OEM to Eibach Pro-Kit) or 2) adjustable rear lower control arms (from OEM to say Rogue or other brand)???? This would be for autoxing. I can tell you all, adjustable front camber plates made a huge difference in my times compared to adjustable struts/shocks or adjustable sway bars. I run close to -2.0 degrees of camber in the rear and can't get more with the OEM arms. I'm thinking the springs at this point but want to hear from those more experienced than me. Stiffer springs will help in making faster transitions if that is what you are after - assuming that you can adjust atleast rebound to keep the tires on the road. You have to be careful of the off-the-shelf spring kits if you have no ability to alter your ride height afterward because the M3 is fairly sensitive to rake. You can end up with a nice spring stiffness but have the nose too high/rear too low and spend a weekend trying to figure out where the new understeer is coming from. After the install... assuming nothing else was changed... adjust the rear ride height (using pads, or adjusters if legal for your class) until you are satisfied with the "attitude" before going to fiddle with everything else. Note: I am not much of an authority on this - I am only relating things from personal experience and what worked to get me back on track ( or what should have when viewed from my 20/20 hindsight). -- Walter

#10. Front suspension clunkage - from Mo Karamat

Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 12:14:03 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Front suspension clunkage Dave, Hello. I also have the GC kit on my car, and have experienced the same issue. After some conversations with Dale (from GC) the issue is that the sperical bearing in the sliders on the camber plate becomes lose after driving it on the street. (pot holes, etc) The only was to fix it is to call GC, and have them send you out new sliders. Enjoy. Mo -------------------- 10 -------------------- Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2006 13:12:57 -0700 From: "Dave DeBuhr" <debuhr@comcast.net> Subject: [E36M3] I have a 98 M3/4 with the Ground Control race/serious track kit (whatever that means). Anyway, I'm gettiong a pretty significant rattling/clunking from the right front. I checked and torqued the front sway bar end links (Eibach bars with OEM links), the lower and upper strut bolts/nuts, I have removed and lubed the GC CC plates, and upper spring hatrs where they contact the spring. I run the hybrid hats FWIW. I have also hit the top nut on the strut with the impact wrench. Still have the noise as I go over bumps and rough pavement while turning or going in a straight line. This started happening all at once. It isn not something that gradually got worse. I will pull the CC plate one more time and recheck the bearings and relube. Is there a bolt that holds the strut insert in the strut body that could come loose or something? Control arm issue. Any ideas would be appreciated! Dave DeBuhr 98 M3/4 ps, yes I checked my lugnuts. ;-)
