Maybe it was the rain, maybe it was fate, maybe it was the damned Fuzion tires....I just switched over from my winter tires to my summer tires about 3 weeks ago. We had a rather cold (40 degrees) and rainy night in Chicago, some idJit SUV driver was abruptly cutting into my lane from the right. I got into the brakes during a turn in a rather narrow construction zone, weight shifted to the front, car oversteered, I tried correcting, had zero traction, went into a spin, met a concrete median very fast and very hard. Car was totalled, no air bags deployed, and I walked away with nothing more than a scratched ego. 159K and running better than new. She had a Koala Motorsport differential, UUC exhaust, sway bars, sway barbarians, short shifter, LWT flywheel and Rob knob. She was the best car I could imagine. Maintained exclusively by Koala Motorsport even though they're 600 miles from Chicago. With exception to cheaping out on summer tires (lesson learned) I gave her the best I could. Hell, I event spent 2 years of driving schools in a 325i so that I would be ready for her before we met. I took her to Road America once, about 5 years ago, just so she could have a look around, and then I decided that she was too special to take chances with. We were together for almost 7 years, and now she's gone. Gone. GONE! So today I'm looking for her fraternal twin sister. She's a 1998 4dr 5spd M3, silver with black interior. She's never been raced or in an accident, and has around 85K miles or hopefully less. She could be anywhere in the country, but she's not an expensive garage queen. If you see her, please drop a line to chip4bmw@yahoo.com I promise to treat her right, and always buy her shoes that don't slip in the rain. Thanks Much, - Chip

Bentley does not have a manual for Mitsubishi. Any recommendations on best manual to get? Also, brakes. Recommendations on brakes for spirited driving? No track time yet. Other than Hawk, I don't recognize most of the brands like Akebono. Thanks for the ot help. #6. WTF: Stock Shift Knob - from Eric Carlson
Top
Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 16:14:16 -0400 From: "Eric Carlson" <eric@bluehammock.com> Subject: WTF: Stock Shift Knob Hey all, I'm looking for a stock shift knob (manual) for a '95 M3. I actually don't care about the insert on top, but it needs to be black leather. I'm sure many of you have replaced this eyesore with something sexy from UUC Motorwerks or Rogue or somesuch. Now is the time to clean out that 0.5 cu. foot of garage space and sell it to me. I have no clue what these are worth, so send me a price with shipping included (I'm in 15219) to eric@bluehammock.com and we'll work it out. Just so we're clear, not the whole mechanism, just the knob for the top. Thanks! - Eric

#7. brake booster question - from Marco

Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 22:13:35 -0700 From: "Marco" <m3driver@iname.com> Subject: brake booster question I'm planning on renewing all the gaskets in my brake booster trying to chase down a brake problem. 2 questions 1) is it really necessary to remove the abs unit from the car to remove the master cylinder? Bentley says you do. 2) This is the first time I suspect all the brake fluid will be out of the system. I do not have AST so are there any gotchas on bleeding? Bentley says typical pressure bleeding is fine for non-AST cars. #8. RTAB and Subframe Bushing Replacement - from dhogg
Top
Date: Thu, 4 May 2006 06:20:43 -0400 From: "dhogg" <dhogg@suscom.net> Subject: RTAB and Subframe Bushing Replacement Gruppe, I just turned 100K on my M3/4. I had been experiencing worsening rear clunkage on right turns and deteriorating NVH on daily driving, plus some handling degradation and accentuated tail-happiness. This car has never been on a track or even an A/X, though it sees "sporty" driving on the street. Stock suspension except for Koni's on reinforced mounts, X-brace and 245's all around on Fikse's. From some comments on the List, I directed the dealer to replace the above, though the tec (a pretty competent guy) said I was probably wasting my money. I picked the car up yesterday, and the tec made a point to see me and tell me 1) it was a bear of a job, and 2) he was very wrong; the bushings were so torn up that he bagged them up for me to see. There's metal showing on every one! They were not only degraded, but destroyed. He had no idea they'd look that bad. And guess what? All of the above symptoms are now back to new-car levels. Hallelujah! And while they were in there I had them replace the headlight lenses so the brighter bulbs could do their jobs better - also a good decision. Hey, when the bill is this high, you don't even feel it. Thank you Suzy and all the listers for keeping this great list going and the great information flowing!
