I'm up in the Seattle area, and have just re-joined the CCA. I've been lurking in the weeds for years and am finally going to join the legion of roundel-toters. I'm on the hunt for a M3/4 5-speed. I've already learned a lot by reading through the digest archives and I'm looking forward to participating on the list. I've found a potential car in Ann Arbor, MI. The only place I've found to get a PPI done is at the BMW dealer there. However, when I called the person I spoke with didn't exactly fill me with confidence about the depth of their inspection process. Aside from the usual used car and E36-specific issues, I'm concerned about rust damage. Can anybody recommend another location to get an inspection done? Thanks! -Pete

I'm contemplating the purchase of a daily driver, and would like to check on the VIN, if anyone happens to have any CarFax reports available. Mandatory M3 Content: Yes Jim, the M3 will slowly start edging toward track-only duty, and possible CR at some point in the future... if they sort out the 996 HFM issue on the cam kits in HP. I'll owe you a beer or used brake pads for a report on the following. ;) WBAAF9331MEEE65407 Thanks, Jonathan L.

The race car eats rear bearings for breakfast and I've actually gotten good at changing them... #6. loose/sticky door handle - from Andy Radin

Date: Fri, 5 May 2006 00:09:07 -0700 From: "Andy Radin" <fourfa@hotmail.com> Subject: loose/sticky door handle I'm having a problem with the driver's side door handle on my 98 M3/2 (120k miles). Feels like a lot of free play when opening from the outside, and a little more than there should be from inside. If I pull harder it eventually opens but it sometimes take a lot of effort and is slowly getting worse. I recall hearing about this one before but don't remember the details. I haven't taken the door panel off to investigate yet. Any clues? andy radin

I had the same problem for a while and spraying some lubricant like WMD-40 helped for a while, but eventually it returned. With the panel off, I removed the entire latching mechanism (not that hard, just a bit of finnageling to get it out), blasted it with more WD while operating the latch to free the gunk that had built up, then I worked petroleum jelly (bmw tech's recommendation for sunroof, too) into the latch, still working the mechanism 30-50 times to really get it in there. When I was done, it felt like a brand new handle. The slack was gone and the pressure required to open it from inside was minimal. I did the same for the passenger side since people were afraid they were going to break it. (so was I!) Hope this helps, Steve On May 5, 2006, at 2:18 AM, Andy Radin wrote: > Date: Fri, 5 May 2006 00:09:07 -0700 > From: "Andy Radin" <fourfa@hotmail.com> > Subject: loose/sticky door handle > > I'm having a problem with the driver's side door handle on my 98 > M3/2 (120k miles). Every year just lube up the door handles with some white lithium grease. Work the door handle some and all will be well. -------------- Original message -------------- From: Steve Klein <s.klein@steveklein.cc> > Date: Fri, 5 May 2006 08:49:15 -0500 > From: Steve Klein > Subject: Re: loose/sticky door handle > > Lubrication. > > > I had the same problem for a while and spraying some lubricant like > WMD-40 helped for a while, but eventually it returned. #10. M3 list embroidered shirts and hats - from Tucker Ryals
Top
Date: Fri, 5 May 2006 18:01:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Tucker Ryals <tuckerryals@yahoo.com> Subject: M3 list embroidered shirts and hats Good evening, At the request of several individuals, my wife, who owns an embroidery company, has produced a sample shirt and visor embroidered with our M3 list logo. Folks have voiced a desire for both short and long sleeve shirts, so both will be available. Also, both a visor and/or hat can be ordered. (Being my first group buy, any suggestions on organization would be appreciated!) Otherwise, my thought is to take orders for 2-3 weeks. At that end of that time, my wife will order the appropriate number of shirts, hats, and visors and then begin producing the items. The first items will be ready within a few days time and I will begin shipping them out. The shirts will be black in color. The hats and visors will be the low-crown, unstructured type, and black in color as well. Here are photos of the samples. List shirt: http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/4319/m3listshirtlarge0sv.jpg List hat/visor: http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/7108/m3listvisorlarge4ng.jpg Here is a link to the shirt she will use (long sleeve is the same other than sleeve length): http://www.chestnuthillapparel.com/knits_pique_polo.html The cost of each item is (not including shipping): Short sleeve polo - $27 Long sleeve polo - $32 Hat - $14 Visor - $13 I checked with the post office and the best shipping method seems to be Priority Mail, which is ~$4 per shipment. If you order multiple items, I think I can fit them into one package, thereby saving some shipping cost for you. I'll provide the handling for free! ;) Please make checks out to me (Tucker Ryals) and send them to: 9835 SW 37th Road Gainesville, FL 32608 If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers, Tucker __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
