What keeps those wheels from getting stolen? Not at the track but when you're snoring away at some hotel. Stuff that isn't locked down I would think tends to walk away late at night. -Carlos. When I was installing my stereo a few years ago, I looked but had no success. I wound up cutting the harness and installing molex plugs. If you find one, please post the source. Any ideas where to find such a harness/plug? > >Thanks, >Mark No idea - but - I'd suggest you are looking in the wrong place to "fix" the sound. The problem is NOT with the HK system - it's with the awful C33 radio that BMW stuck in these cars (radio = "headunit" in modern jargon.) Get yourself a CD43 "headunit" - which is the CD capable one made by Blaupunk. It transforms the audio system in the E36/M3. It was made for the Z3 M-roadster and M-Coupe in 2001-2002.. afaik - never sold in the E36 M3 which is a damn shame. The HK system is actually very good (not for sheet-metal rattling stop-light showoffs - but for "audiophiles" ears..) - but sadly made to sound crappy by having a piss-poor (tech-term) audio source (the C33). Watch for the CD43 on Ebay autos. Last time I was watching them they range from $275 to $350 or so.. worth every phenig since if you keep the C33 you can recoup the cost when you sell the car by throwing the awful-audio back in to sell it. And the CD43 is truly plug and play. Make sure it comes with the code to unlock it (although you can get it from a dealer, it's easier if you get it with the radio.) Back to E46/M3 lurkdom (bought the shim kit for valve adjusting - $300 - whooohooo! Gonna have some fun next weekend for sure..) I've figured out that my most recent sound quality issues are being caused primarily by a degrading sirius satellite radio. > The HK system is actually very good (not for sheet-metal rattling > stop-light showoffs - but for "audiophiles" ears..) - but sadly > made to sound crappy by having a piss-poor (tech-term) audio > source (the C33). > > Watch for the CD43 on Ebay autos. Gonna have some fun next > weekend for sure..) The dilemma of course is no longer one of sound quality but necessity. I plan on installing a computer into my car. When I do this, I will no longer have a head unit as the touch screen will replace this. Once I have no head unit, I have no "high" source of audio to drive the harman amp. The plan was to put in my own Kicker 4 channel amp for the highs and create my own crossover network, but minimal impact on the car is pretty important to me as this must all transition into my E46 M3 later on. Guess I'm screwed though ;) You'd think something like that would be a popular accessory as all E36's share the same need. Does everyone just upgrade to the HK amp and system? How boring ;) Thanks, Mark
