The one O'fest I sort of attended in Indy, that was a normal scene. Someone carrying their Fikses into the elevator, the other guests giving this person a strange look. Brake pad changes in the parking lot in the dark. I did a wheel swap in the parking structure and was interrupted by someone asking why are all these BMW people changing wheels at the hotel so much? One set for a show or something? >:^) Yes a show(down) at Putnam Park perhaps. heh. -Carlos.

Replacing the head unit with almost anything would blow away the C33 stock unit. I just took an Eclipse CD head unit I had that puts out 12W/channel, got the 50 pin adaptor, wired it to the Eclipse. It plugged it into the factory plug in the dash, done. Much better sound. Sounds odd but you use the speaker out wires in this case from the head unit. Usually the pre-amp outs go to an amp but not in this case. If you get a head unit that has both a speaker out with pre-amp out you can do the big upgrade later if you desire and not need to replace the head unit. My 328 I did the whole thing. Used only some of the factory wires (speaker wires, acc, remote on, etc) but nothing of the rest of the factory components. 2-way component speakers in front, coaxial speakers in the rear deck, 10" sub and 700W 5 channel amp. The Alpine head unit is pre-amp out only with built in sub gain control. This was a significant effort I will tell you! (stopped short of the neon though) --Bill 96 M3 red 97 328i white

I was concerned that if the tires rotated while bouncing around that the strap could fall off. Ended up running the strap through the hub center. Major pain to tighten the strap though. My 1998 has just started to run really bad when cold. While the electric smog pump is warbling away (presumably open loop mixture control too?) it runs like you left the oil fill cap off, i.e. no power and stalls when you crack the throttle. Once the smog pump cuts out (~1minute) it runs fine, no hesitation, normal power. I suspect a big vacuum leak. Two warm-up cycles ago I had a little hesitation before launching on 300mi trip, and now undriveable until warmed up. Visual and aural inspection (engine already warm) turned up nothing obvious. No CEL and no latent fault codes stored. Any ideas to get me started or sneaky places for vacuum leaks to hide? Thanks! Jon --------------------------------- Love cheap thrills? Priceless as they cost $80 each at dealer for midranges. My tweeters don't do anything as far as my ears can hear ;) Thanks, Mark

I was hoping I coudl find a plug for this so > >I wouldn't have to do any cuts to the factory install as I plan to sell > >the car fairly soon. Any ideas where to find such a harness/plug? It's been a while, so my memory may be rusty. When I bought my car I installed an aftermarket alarm, and a new stereo from the ground up (Nakamichi head unit, a/d/s/ 6 channel amp, Dynaudio 240mkII 7" 2-ways in front [this was an adventure all by itself], pair of 10" free-air subs in the rear deck [another adventure]). What I recall is that I disassembled the rear amp harness and pulled out individual pins and inserted those into the screw terminals on the amp. Didn't cut anything, but I do have to look up the pinout diagram to reassemble the stock stereo should I choose to do so. Here's the interesting bit. After all that, I got an alarm harness adaptor to interface with the stock alarm harness. It looked familiar, so I compared it to the amp harness, and as far as I could tell, they were identical. I filed that away in my brain for later use but forgot about it until now. So if you can still locate one of those... andy r. 98 m3/2

#10. window gliders - from Brian Ruiz

Date: Thu, 18 May 2006 12:23:11 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: window gliders Hey all, I posted to the UUC list about this about a week ago, and never got a response, so I reposted today, and I'm cross posting here as well. I was wondering what sort of grease to use for the ball-joint plastic window gliders in the door. The grease on mine is all smeared out and caked up, so I wanted to clean it up well and regrease. I assume lithium grease? Or a synthetic grease like the pink Mobil 1 stuff? TIA, Brian build 8/95
