I did notice a small difference in the handling from when I had 4 Pilots, but it wasn't a big enough difference to bother me. Like others, I was not a fan of the tires. My biggest beef was the incredible noise. I've never been happier to get short life out of a set of tires. I'm running Avon M500's on all four corners now and love them. I would also suggest looking at the rear trailing arm bushings, the symptons described point to a failure there. >Correct... >Money and all.... >The fronts just last a lot longer so I decided to >diverge. Yes, they suck, it has been reported here and many other places for a while. Get some Michelin PS2s (even PE2) or Toyo T1R or Goodyear Eagle F1. Put the exact same tire front and rear on the car. Well that's what I mean. After he comes to a stop after running, a fan should probably be spinning to help cool down the head and manifolds. If the radiator is just THAT good I suppose you could get by with ambient wind. I'm not sure how much of a turbo oil choking effect is present in the cooling system of these cars. i.e. run a hard run and then just shut it off, rather than letting it idle a little... Bad idea? #4. Anyone do a complete OBDI to OBDII swap? - from Kirk Lachman

Ok, this is probably backwards of what has usually been done, but I'll ask anyway: Has anyone swapped an OBDI engine, computer, exhaust, diff, etc. for an OBDII? Any idea on what would be involved other than a straight swap (i.e., harness does/does not plug into fuse box?)? Just thinking of making the car a '97 instead of a '95 (I really need to *closely* look at the rules for this). Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

I ran AVS100's on my E30 and they didn't track straight and about 25% into the tread they go noisy. So noisy in fact I replaced them before they wore out. I'm now partial to Falken's. I've used them on my E30 and now my E36. Not another Yoko for me. I have had a few sets of ES100's on the E30 and they were OK for it, but in sizes wider than 205 they turn really ugly. Even on the E30 they are just OK at best. I would say they suck. OK if you are in a pinch and need something cheap..but your M3 deserves better.. Dave

#9. CD43 head unit part number? - from Steve Sharp

Date: Wed, 31 May 2006 10:53:03 -0700 From: "Steve Sharp" <steve.sharp@xilinx.com> Subject: CD43 head unit part number? Does anyone know the part number(s) for a CD43 head unit as sold in the late 90's Z3/M-Roadsters? I've seen some on eBay and one had an external amp module that looked like a flat box with a mounting bracket. Most of the CD43's are just the head unit. I am looking for one that will just plug into my '97 M3 standard audio system with CD changer. Thanks! Steve

It's just a coincidence that you noticed it with the new tires - I know I'm always more aware of my car after getting any work done. I always end up noticing something ELSE, and spending more money. Argh :-) FWIW, I'm a fan of the Michelin Pilot Sports for the M3. On my second set, will most likely replace 'em with a third later this year (maybe the PS2s). Intially expensive? Yeah, but then I regularly get ~40,000 miles out of 'em - current set mileage is right about 39,000 :-) They are a more comfortable ride than the SO-3s and are better in the wet that the AVS Sports, IME. As usual, YMMV, PDCC, for external use only, batteries not included, blah^3 :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

I think there are several. The one I bought on eBay two years ago was: 65 12 6 909 884 At the time, the various part numbers were confusing to me, too, so I did some research in the ETK. I came up with a diagram of the part succession, as indicated by the ETK: http://www.take5.org/BMW-CD43-Radio-Succession.pdf Each circle has a part number, the ETK's description of that part number, and the models the ETK says that part was used in. The arrows between them illustrate the links between the parts in the ETK. For example, the circle at the bottom right (65 12 6 909 885) is a remanufactured head unit. The "new" (non-remanufactured) version of this head unit is to the left (65 12 6 909 884), and the old version is above (65 12 6 902 821). The old version expired on July 7, 2000. Short answer: You probably want either the 65 12 6 909 884 or the 65 12 9 415 433. The 884 is the newer of the two. Steve W. Brewer steve@take5.org
