A more correct statement would be that the shock shaft length is optimized for reduced ride height - shock shaft does not bottom prior to spring coil bind. Shorter/stiffer springs on an E36 cannot provide equivalent suspension travel to stock spring range of motion, the overall geometry is not available on a lowered car. Semantics I'm sure. Looks like a good deal despite the claim by some that the PSS9 kit is an entry level CO system. Are spacers required with stock 7.5 X 17 wheels? FYI- The full travel you speak of is only available on the front struts correct? KLBurgess -------------------- 2 -------------------- Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2006 12:47:53 -0500 From: "Will Turner" <willt@turnermotorsport.com> Subject: Coil Overs VS non Coil overs and SALES PLUG This seems like a good time to offer some information on coil overs (if someone else has not beat me to it) The major difference that people notice between street coil overs and non coil over street lowering kits on the E36 (besides the ability to adjust the ride height to exactly where you want it) is : Ride on rough roads, The coil over kits we sell (H&R and Bilstein specifically) are engineered so that when the car is lowered the car will still have close to , if not the same, suspension travel capability. Meaning that a coil over kit will not "bottom out" like a standard sport shock and lowering spring combo can when you hit big bumps. This makes a huge difference when hitting pot holes and the like. Bottoming out makes the "BANG" that you hear when hitting a big bump... So, now for the Sales plug...We are offering E36 Bilstein Coil over kits at 10% of our already low prices this month (while supplies last) E36 325/328 PSS9 (9 way adjustable)$1259 E36 M3 3.0 PSS9 (9 way adjustable)$1299 E36 M3 3.2 PSS9 (9 way adjustable)$1299 E36 325/328 PSS (non adjustable) $854 The pricing is not advertised on line but if you mention that you are a digest member when you call, we will adjust pricing. - Will ------------------------------------ Turner motorsport - Will Turner - President < willt@turnermotorsport.com > 16 Hunt Road South Amesbury, Ma 01913 tel: 978-388-7769 x 11 fax: 978-388-4202 ------------------------------------ ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com Elephant Motorsports Inc. http://www.elephantmotorsports.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

I've been using a BF-vise grip (#10?) to grab onto the top edge of the 22mm socket, which gives plenty of room to insert the proper device (in my case, a hex socket) through the hole in the 22mm for torquing. No flat spot needed -- you can get plenty of grip w/a vise grip. Scott. -----Original Message----- From: Dave DeBuhr [mailto:debuhr@comcast.net] Sent: Friday, June 02, 2006 9:45 AM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: Shock removal Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2006 09:39:12 -0700 From: "Dave DeBuhr" <debuhr@comcast.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: Shock removal I bought the victory socket after everyone on the list ripped me a new one when I told them I used an impact. The Victory socket works great. Anyone know what to torque the top nut to. GC said, "until it stops turning." Real nice. I used 20 ft lbs and all seems well. Got rid of a rattle in the camber plate too! Dave -----Original Message----- If you don't feel like using a bench grinder to put flats on the 22mm deep socket yourself, then buy one ready-made from Victory Product Design, see: <http://victoryproductdesign.com/tools_main.htm>, "Koni Shock Front Strut Socket," seventh item down. You should be able to use the same tool setup with the appropriate allen hex instead of the 11mm socket to loosen or tighten the nut on stock struts. Neil 96 M3

OK. :-) Merely match my current salary, let me remain in California, and as long I have the occasional Fri-Sun off (which will oddly coincide with BMW Club Races :-)), I'm there! Pssh, who am I kidding, I'd do that job for $45K, but in order to make the move it'd have to be at least $60K. I'd do just about anything to get out of computers these days. Maybe I can get an apprenticeship under Jim Conforti ;) Not unserious at all ;) Of course then I'd be back to computers hacking firmware and fuel maps. But at least that would be interesting. Thanks, Mark
