#1. Coil Overs VS non Coil overs and SALES PLUG - from Mo Karamat
Top
Date: Mon, 05 Jun 2006 13:43:37 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Coil Overs VS non Coil overs and SALES PLUG I have the GC coil-overs on my race car, and absolutely love the set up on my car. Yes the hardware is not really protected from dirt, and the camber plates do become noisy on the street (when I had this set up on my street car), but from a handling perspective it is absolutely awesome!! I bought my set up from Dale at GC. Another data point.. Regards. Mo

#2. RE: Any thoughts on the SuperSprint SS exhaust? - from Steve Sharp

Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2006 10:44:05 -0700 From: "Steve Sharp" <steve.sharp@xilinx.com> Subject: RE: Any thoughts on the SuperSprint SS exhaust? Hi Scott I put the SS exhaust on my '97 M3/2 last fall. Sound is a little more aggressive without being "boy racer" obnoxious (which was what I was looking for). Gets a nice aggressive growl as you get the revs up above 4,000 or so. Fitting my system had a problem that my local shop said he hasn't seen throught the 50+ systems he's installed (including his own '95 M3). The corner of the main canister was contacting the lower shock mounting eye as the suspension compressed. Since the tailpipes were already alighed in the rear diffuser opening, he did some surgery on the canister, cutting off a corner and tig welding it back up. Nice job, fixed the problem, and he didn't charge me anything to do it. Horsepower and torque feel a little better though my butt dyno, but no real numbers I can cite. Overall, I'd recommend the SuperSprint exhaust. -Steve

Well, it's been a while since I've sat in on a morning student meeting, but I recall it being made pretty clear what the hazard lights indicate. Plus, we've (i.e. GGC) pretty much eliminated instructors in the "D" group. In theory, any student likely to encounter a "flashing" car <g> has been to at least one school already and knows the routine. In theory.... :-) (BTW, other groups around here indicate instructor cars in another way - with a tape or shoe polish "X" on the windshield and rear window.) Cheers, Jim Bassett

#5. Synthetic Oil needed? - from kelvin

The last oil change was done with 20w50 oil. I called the shop to check if it was conventional or synthetic oil. The guy said to use 20w50 because the car was "older and had high milage." I thought this was kind of surprising. (I had to ask, because I need to top the oil off and didn't want to mix in the wrong kind of oil) I ran Mobil1 in my E30M3 and that car was even older! Is 20w50 conventional ok? I am a "3k mile and change the oil" kind of guy. So it's a lot cheaper with conventional vs. synthetic at 7quarts per change! What weight is everyone running? Keep in mind, I live in the SanFrancisco bay area, so it's never "freezing" here. Thanks! -kelvin

Well, if you're adverse to following the SI lights, at least go to the approximate "half-way" point - typically 4500-5000 miles. IMO. YMMV. PDCC. :-) > What weight is everyone running? Keep in mind, I live in the > SanFrancisco bay area, so it's never "freezing" here. I'm using Mobil 1 15W50 in both cars. Used to use Red Line 10W40 in the M3, but with it's "loose-ness" and oil consumption, a slightly thicker (and for a time cheaper) oil was recommended. Also in SF Bay Area. Sorry, I meant "eliminate instructors DRIVING in the "D" groups" We were, after all talking about instructors driving, right? :-) > Here A is the most experiences, D those with little or no experience. Same here. Instructors are OK to DRIVE <g> in A & B groups, as well as C, being careful to operate at or near that groups speed (or maybe it's me that gets warned about that every time :-)). Only in VERY rare instances can an instructor DRIVE <g> in D group. How's that? :-) Jim Bassett
