Flywheel to crankshaft (new bolts or at a minimum, new threadlock) - 105 Nm Clutch to flywheel: M8 8.8 - 24 Nm M8 10.9 - 34 Nm Regards, Rich

I flipped the headlights on, and two not-ok things started happening: 1. The driver's instrument cluster backlighting did not come on. 2. The odometer backlight and the center console backlight (clock, OBC, etc) would go dim/bright/dim/bright ad nauseum. Repeated fiddling with the headlight switch and the console backlight brightness wheel failed to alter the situation. Headlights work fine (or as well as the stock DOT lights ever work). Any ideas? Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2006 22:53:26 -0500 From: Mel Silva <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: UUC Stage 2 LWT Flywheel install notes FYI, I found during my install that the supplied clutch alignment tool, marked BMW, had a sloppy fit into the pilot bearing (transmission input shaft bearing in the crank). It was sloppy enough that I could not get a good good alignment from the pilot bearing to the friction disc splines. After wrestling with the transmission for about 30 minutes, I pulled the box of clutch alignment tools I've gathered over my years of wrenching. I found one that fit perfectly, snug enough that I had to use slow even pressure to extract it after bolting up the pressure plate. Turns out the one that fit was for my old '88 5.0 Mustang. Worth knowing if you plan on doing this in the future. The transmission slipped right into place after that, well... sort of. Various other junk replaced while doing this job: All 4 of the O2 sensors, not so much of a PITA with the trans out of the way. Guibo (Flex disc) just starting to show cracks, but since it was already unbolted... I wound up replacing all of the pressure plate to flywheel bolts, because I'm a moron and stripped the internal hex drive extracting them. Downpipe exhaust gaskets were required since I removed the cat pipe to get the trans out. I also put the stock M3 exhaust back on. Got tired of the UUC DMS making all that noise. Mel

This is on a two door with Vaders. Not sure if it will work in a sedan or with other seats. I had to have the seat fairly far forward in order for there to be a straight shot out. There aren't a whole lot of good spots in the m3. And of course you aren't using this at a bmwcca event, right? Or have they started to allow timing devices? And Jim is also right about mounting it on the passenger seat. The sedan's B pillar is right in the way. I'm going to play around with some options tomorrow and see what I can figure out. One possibility I was thinking of was mounting the receiver on the passenger side, roof grab handle. Otherwise, I think I might just have to settle for mounting it in the door again.
