The ????: Could you please advise fitment on e36M3. Does it require removal of motor, or cutting anything to fit these headers in the car with motor installed. Are there any tricky steps to installation one should know about. Why are they described as 'racing only'. Is that because they are not EPA approved or carb certified? If so theoretically in states that don't specifically looks for these tags, (aka not California), they would probably work on a daily street driver... The answer: Hi, This Header is direct bolt on, no motor removal required. But best to have these Headers install by mechanics due to very tight space. I've stated for race only because for EPA issues such as for California, but can be daily driven. If you hadn't noticed, a lot of aftermarket parts are labeled/disclaimed as "For racing/off-road purposes only" for just that lack of CARB/EPA certification. Oh, and headers can be removed/installed in situ but is can be a PITA. A lot easier when the head is off the motor :-) Jim Bassett

Car has a "locker room" smell when the ventillation system is on in the summer (ventillation, but no AC). I understand that some part of the ventillation system needs to be sprayed (liberally) with a disinfectant to alleviate the problem. The E39 solution involves drilling a hole in the side of the ventillation breather box in the cockpit, then using a garden sprayer. I thought I recalled mention of the AC condensor, which appears to be under the hood in the E36. Can anyone provide some insights on the affected E36 part and How to clean it? #7. Low oil pressure at idle issue. - from William Townsend

Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2006 10:09:14 -0400 From: "William Townsend" <wtownsend@juniper.net> Subject: Low oil pressure at idle issue. Hi All, I have a friend with a 98 M3 which generates very low oil pressure at idle. He has run 5w-30 and 20w-50 and both trigger the low pressure light when hot at idle. The pressure is so low at idle the VDO gauge he has does not register a pressure. (not that those gauges are that accurate) He also sees the oil pressure warning once in a while in hard corners. Anyone have this happen to them? He has the turner baffle kit in the pan too. This is a track car run on the glen and Lime Rock Park mostly. It has done this for a while but the car keeps ticking. I would think the pump should go but maybe some of you have this as normal?? My 96 at idle, oil at 190F generates 16 PSI with 5w-30. Thanks, --Bill

Is he using a VDO sender that supplies a signal to the idiot light and to the gauge? The reason I ask is this. I had a VDo gauge in a previous car and the dual sender that VDO makes has a high threshold. What this means is that at idle the idiot light will flicker. Not sure this is the same issue but VDO senders don't switch off the idiot light until about 12psi. YMMV. #9. non-M rtab's the norm from a dealer? - from Dave Thomas

I ordered the wrong rtab's from my normal parts supplier (got the non-M ones..d'oh!) and instead of waiting until next weekend to do the job, I figured I would just get some from the local dealer and do it this weekend. Well...to my surprise..the dealer claims that BMW sells the non-flanged rtab's as the correct ones for the M3. They claimed they have been selling those for M3's "for quite some time". What up with that? Is that correct or are these guys just retarded? I dont go over there much but normally they seem to know the cars pretty well. I just cant see how they would be a decent replacement. They are much softer and even have slits down the side. I can actually just flex them with my fingers...much like the ones with 95K on them ;-) Dave T.

I ordered from Pelican what they listed as the correct one for my 98 M3. Turns out that the correct one was listed on their site for the E46 car only. They're sending me the correct ones and also not dinging me for return shipping or a restocking fee. I *JUST* went and checked, and they've update their site to correct the issue. If you put in the part number (33-32-2-228-153), you now see it for both E36 and E46 M3. The non-M part is listed separately. -Pete On 7/7/06, Dave Thomas <dave@sasdatalink.com> wrote: > > Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2006 14:46:34 -0700 > From: Dave Thomas <dave@sasdatalink.com> > Subject: non-M rtab's the norm from a dealer? > > > I ordered the wrong rtab's from my normal parts supplier (got the non-M > ones..d'oh!) and instead of waiting until next weekend to do the job, I > figured I would just get some from the local dealer and do it this > weekend. > Well...to my surprise..the dealer claims that BMW sells the non-flanged > rtab's as the correct ones for the M3.
