I am not real sure what is wrong with the sunroof mechanism in our car, I did not see anything broken like I have on other BMW sunroofs. Everything just seems fairly worn. I just put the whole thing back in the car and plan on hitting the BMW dealer on Monday to order all the little bits they sell for it. I guess I'll get it sorted next weekend. #2. low idle/check engine light - from Jason Olin

Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2006 21:05:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Olin <jtolin64@yahoo.com> Subject: low idle/check engine light Hi folks- Symptom: check engine light flickers when the car is well warmed up at idle, and sometimes when braking (not hard braking). Seems like the car is idling at a lower level than it used to, hence the check engine light flickering. Had the oil just changed and now to 5W30. My mechanic isn't sure what's up because it doesn't trigger any codes. Why isn't there a little screw to adjust the idle like in my 1980 Fiesta S? I've got 2500mi before the extended warranty ends forever and ever...any ideas? The mechanic is nice and good, but the warranty company will only pay for things that are clearly diagnosed. Secondarily, my A/C compressor is dying, but isn't dead yet. The warranty company will pay fast for a dead compressor, but how do you convince them that it's a dying one, besides telling them that it makes a loud noise and that the A/C isn't cooling up? Sorry for the dumb questions... Jason 97 M3 2 door coupe ~98K mi PS-- I didn't get to drive an e46 M3 yet, but went out for a spin in a 2003 911. Wow, that's a car.

It doesn't appear to hinder the fans operation at all, just wondering if at speed I would have a problem? Anyone have any thoughts, specifically the track people? #6.Fuel Pump Failure - from Shane Kleinpeter
Top
Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 09:43:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Shane Kleinpeter <sak335@yahoo.com> Subject: <E36> Fuel Pump Failure I have a problem on my 1994 325i race car that is killing fuel pumps. Last year at Road Atlanta (the last time I ran the car until this weekend) the car ran most of the weekend until on Sunday afternoon I lost fuel pressure. Both pumps (I run the dual setup and have for some time now) were dead. I replaced the pumps and have had the car down since last year, until I took it to VIR this weekend. Sunday afternoon the car died on me and restarted after I added 7.5 gallons of gas (It wouldn't take any more, suggesting that I had 1/2 a tank left). I ran several more sessions and then the car wouldn't start, no fuel pressure. I think what happened is the transfer pump died first which is why it only took 7.5 gallons. After that the main pump died leaving me with no fuel pressure. I have not had a chance to test anything beyond the relay, but I'm pretty sure the pumps are both dead again. I'm perplexed at what might be killing fuel pumps so quickly. Any experience or suggestions? #10. Opinions needed on adjustable RLCA's - from mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 13:46:26 -0400 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Opinions needed on adjustable RLCA's Group, Well I installed Eibach Pro-Kit springs on the M3 last week. I did not want much of a drop in ride height. I actually got less than expected -- about a half inch all around. I suspect between 10 year old OEM springs and old insulator pads that I already had some sag with age (don't we all). Anyway, I do have a slight rubbing issue on the left rear tire. It's not rubbing on the fender (they are rolled), but I'm seeing a rub mark on the inside of the wheel well plastic cover. Just a little, but I'm concerned that when I autox this weekend it could become a bigger issue. I have as much negative camber as I can get from the OEM RLCA's but that's only -1.6 degrees. More camber will help solve this rubbing AND help the handling too. I've been looking at the adjustable RLCA's and my question is who makes the best?? All opinions wanted...I like what I see from Turner, GC, Rogue, and BMP. They all seem to be in the $300 price range too. I want easy adjustability to go from street (-1.0 degree) to autox (-2.5 degrees). A friend had a bad ground (admittedly not on a bmw), and the car had a provision to bypass the relay to activate the pump directly. By jumpering this port to power he could hear the pump, and was able to determine it was a bad ground somewhere. Just a thought.
