So apparently there can be some variance in it's manifestation. If the light is on, it isn't working. The computer is programmed so that if it can't trust a sensor (light is on) that it doesn't try doing anything, otherwise it might try 'fixing' how you are driving with faulty data which could cause a crash. If your mechanic truly believes what he told you, get a different mechanic. Paul L Fisher

#2. A coilover conundrum (spring rates, what to do?) - from Jeff Conner
Top
Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2006 14:18:52 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Conner <jeff.conner@yahoo.com> Subject: A coilover conundrum (spring rates, what to do?) So, now that you've all convinced me to go with the aluminum radiator, I've got this *other* issue. My suspension is shot. You might ask "Jeff...you're somewhat inexperienced in the E36 ///M3 world, how do you _know_ your suspension is shot?" To which I would reply, "Well, when I give either corner of the hood a loving nudge downward, the car responds with more bounce than my neighbors 6 year old Toyota Avalon. Oh, and the wife's 05 M3 barely moves when I do the same thing." I also don't like the ride height in front at all. The rear is great, and I could live with a little bit of lowering, but the front has to drop at least 3/4 an inch, probably more, to look like I want it. Oh, and I'd like the car to handle better, too. Imagine that... So I've been convinced by my more saavy friends that I need some sort of Ground Contol kit, with adjustable camber plates. I like what I see. Especially the idea of my front tires lasting more than 3500 miles or an 4 autocrosses because there is still some tread on the outside edge. Now to the meat of my message. The item that has me most confused is spring rate. I'm an actively addicted autocrosser, burgeoning track day junkie and aggressive canyon driver but it's also the car that I take my kids to school in and drive daily. I've been told that GC's Street/Track setup comes standard with 475f/550r. I've been told that 500f/600r is a good balance between competitive auto-x performance and only minor passenger abuse on the street, and I've seen Chester Wong's report about a 300f/400r setup. And others... Does anyone have an opinion (dumb question, huh) about what rates to go with? Can you share your experiences with me? #7. FS: 1999 BMW M3, Imola Red, Moderna interior, < 58K miles - from Jesse Chamberlain
Top
Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2006 09:48:57 -0400 From: "Jesse Chamberlain" <jesse.chamberlain@gmail.com> Subject: FS: 1999 BMW M3, Imola Red, Moderna interior, < 58K miles Hello All, I have decided that I am going to sell my 99 M3. I love the car, but I just bought a house, and I think its time to let the car go. I don't plan on being away too long, as I would like to buy a newer M3 or 330 in the next year or two. The Good: The car has almost everything, power vadars, heated seats, Premium HK Sound, side-impact airbags, spoiler, pre-wired for an alarm (but doesn't actually have one installed), CD-changer, fold down rear seats, etc. I am the 2nd owner of this car, and I've owned this car for the last 2+ years (will be 3 in Sept) I have only put about 14K on it in that time. I bought it with around 43K miles. About 75% of the driving I've done with it has been highway, as I used to live in Rochester NY, and drove to CT with it a few times. This car has never seen winter roads at all. It was garaged every year from early November to mid-April. The car has some upgrades, including Bilsteins all around (the newer M3 versions), and has H&R Sport springs. I've installed the Eurosport M50 Intake manifold kit on it and has a intake with the same filter as the JC/Eurosport kit. I have a JC chip for it, but I haven't installed it yet, so I might sell that with the car if the buyer wants it. I've only used the BMW synthetic 5W30 oil in the car, and I still change the oil every year (which is less than the 5K miles per oil change). The Bad: The only thing negative about this car, is that it was in an accident two months ago. It was one of the first times I had the car out this spring, and a driver coming the other way decided to go the wrong way down a one-way street, and pulled out in front of me. I hit the side of his car with the passenger side front corner of the M3. He decided to just drive away, so needless to say I was not at fault, but the car has had some body work done. I want to stress that I am extremely anal about the condition of the car, and I am very pleased with the repair that was done. The repair and paint work has a life time guarantee on it. There was only sheet metal damage done to the car. The car was still running with the AC on still blowing cold air after the accident. I was going probably about 10-15 when I hit the other car, but the hood, right fender, grill panel and bumper were all replaced with OE Parts. I made sure that the repair place used only OE parts. The car looks brand new and I challenge anyone who looks at it to find any signs of the accident. :) The Price: I am looking to get around $20,500 for this car, or best offer. Its a great car, and runs like its almost brand new. The interior is in almost perfect condition, with just a little wear on the drivers side seat. I have tons of pictures of the car, and can take some brand new pictures of the car for interested people. The car is located in Easthampton, MA, near the Springfield area. Please feel free to contact me via email if your interested. Thanks! ------------------------------------------- Jesse Chamberlain jesse.chamberlain@gmail.com
