I want to get my front bumper resprayed on my M Coupe, as the thing is rockchipped to hell. I am beginning to doubt that the paint on the bumper is original, given how easily it is chipping and bubbling next to the chips. But the hood is original paint (as far as I know), and has almost no chips. I figure, between the difference on the angles of the panels, as well as the difference between metal and plastic surfaces, I would rather just get the bumper resprayed and not do any blending at all.. thereby keeping the original paint and surface on my hood. - reid > Chuck: > > Blending into the rear door (and possibly part of the rear quarter) is the > right way to do it. > > However, I would not necessarily blend the hood because even if the color is > off 1/2 a shade, it would not be noticeable due to the different angles of > those panels. > > Another important factor is the quality of the materials. They no longer handle claims with respect to quality, just delivery only. Example: Just bought a euro m-tec steering wheel advertised like new, received a heavily worn one, paypal denies claim. If the shipment gets lost, or is never sent they will back you. Lost shipment is normally covered by the carrier, so really all paypal is doing now is getting involved is claims against the deadbeat seller who never ships out. So if you buy a really expensive 6spd for you M and it grinds after you installed it, you're stuck! Patrick Just got stuck, although I really like the smaller diameter steering wheel and am still using it! -----Original Message----- From: Gary [mailto:probikeguy@probikeusa.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 19, 2006 1:56 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Online purchases Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 12:51:04 -0500 From: "Gary" <probikeguy@probikeusa.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Online purchases Do it through Pay Pal... Torn Leather on the upper part of the drivers seat. The leather is worn out on the upper part of my driver's seat. Is it possible the unbolt the upper back and replace it with a matching one from another E36. My friend has a seat with good/matching leather -- that he'll sell me for $125. What do you think. - is this a good or bad idea? - should I just cover it with some sheep skin? Thanks, Scott... E36/M3 96' 144K 2D Silver.

Seems 80% of Germany is using Spies though. Also, just to add to Rich's feedback on paint thickness - horizontal panels can be 2-4 mils thicker than vertical panels due to the effect of gravity, so don't trip if you're checking out a used car w/ a paint thickness tool and the thickness on different panels varies slightly (thick bondo spots will be obvious). BTW, horizontal panels will also have a flatter texture than vertical panels, again due to gravity. >-------------------- 8 -------------------- >Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 13:48:57 -0400 >From: "NabliLaw" <nabli@earthlink.net> >Subject: RE: [E36M3] Paint Blending >Another important factor is the quality of the materials. #8. source for BMW oil? - from Andy Radin

Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 20:37:34 -0700 From: "Andy Radin" <fourfa@hotmail.com> Subject: source for BMW oil? Hello gruppe, Question about the BMW 5-30 synthetic oil, on which my 98 M3/2 runs very happily (unacceptable oil consumption with other types I've tried). The local Mountain View, CA dealer used to charge $3.50 a quart, lately they've remodeled and demand $8 or so. Do you folks find it worthwhile to mailorder this stuff, or is the shipping just as bad? Is there any truth to the old rumor that the BMW brand is the same as Castrol or some such? Thanks, Andy R.

If the price has raised, you might try Fremont, but I'm not sure I would buy anything else from them. Last time I was there, they were selling it for $5.95/qt. - but that was March, so who knows how things have changed.
