Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 10:27:13 -0500 From: "Resener, Kurt" <KurtResener@IamMorrison.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Rear Spoiler Install Looks like I have the coupe version. My local dealer has ordered me the mounting kit and I should have both it and my freshly painted wing on Friday, so I can drill away on Saturday. Thanks for the part number on the kit! I'm guessing it'll be fairly straightforward to tap into my third brake light wiring for the brake light in the spoiler. Anyone know if I remove the bulb from my rear window mounted brake light if it'll trigger the obc to tell me I have a bulb out? I am not talking about the LTW wing. The sedan and coupe wings are different but use the same mounting kit. They look very similar but the coupe wing has a slight curve to it and the sedan wing is flat. Most people who added the wing to a regular 3 series back then never knew about the differences in wings and neither did most dealers. So it's possible you have the sedan wing. They are all interchangeable so it makes no difference. It's just a look. http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=4004 vs. http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=1364 To my knowledge the spoiler option was only offered on the M3s. Thanks Jim! I know it isn't the lightweight version, but am wondering if it is the stock one that was offered on our cars. Friend that I got it from had two; one off of his son's totaled '98 328is, the other off his son's '97 M3. Now they were both identical, I took the one from the 328is because the color more closely matched my avus blue and if it ever got chipped after I get it painted to match my car the chip color wouldn't look so bad. So given the above, I guess the rear spoilers on the e36 M3's were not specific to M3's? Used on lesser models as well? I spoke with a technical rep. at Hawk today and they actually use a mill to shave their pads to different thicknesses. I will be replicating this process using a fly cutting tool on a Bridgeport. The biggest concern is keeping the pad square and the speed reasonable during the milling process to keep heat in check and prevent chunking of material. This should work great. Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 18:15:01 -0400 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: RE: Front brake pad and/or rotor issue Quick note from me on this. Rob asked me about it to make sure before answering. I do think it is common with the Hawks to be snug, but a very aggressive bedding process takes care of it quickly from what I have seen. This is interesting because when we were testing PFC pads recently, they had sent some thinner variations and the complaint I got was the pad was too thin and the pads were going to wear out before their time. PFC pads are now very similar in many fitments - not loose when you put them on, but they free up nicely and you are getting all the pad you paid for. Also, there is some slight variation in pad thickness so some are more snug than others. But they SHOULD all work the right way. #10. gas smell! - from Kelvin
Top
Date: Wed, 02 Aug 2006 19:47:33 -0700 From: Kelvin <mpower@obikwan.com> Subject: gas smell! All, My '95 M3 has a very very strong fuel vapor odor. I filled up the car the other day and drove it 1mile to get it home. The next day I go into the garage and there's a VERY strong fuel vapor smell. I think maybe I don't have the cap on tight. Tighten it, smell doesn't go away. Today I put ClingWrap on the gas door hoping that maybe the gas cap is going bad. Nadda, still same problem. I just took the car out to Target. Drove with the windows down and no fuel smell inside the cabin. Parked the car, went inside. Came back out, and you could smell the fuel! This is outdoors mind you! So, anything I should look for or look at? One thing of note, is that prior to fueling the car up, I had taken the stock airbox out to take a look at how an intake system might be setup on the car. I don't believe I broke anything around that area. Is there a charcoal canister below the airbox? Any hints would be great! The vapors is driving me crazy, causing air pollution, and most importantly my gas is going up in thin air! =P Thanks! -kelvin
