#2. Dead radio - from K.C. Boyce

I replaced the fuse on the back of the radio and got it to say code, then the fuse blew again. I replaced it one more time, and couldn't even get "code". I subsequently bought a CD43, which should be arriving sometime this week. However, this morning, I started up my car, and the radio was flashing "code". I entered the code, and it's working normally. Any clues? Seems like maybe there's a broken circuit somewhere in the radio.is this a failure mode anyone else has experienced? This is more to sate my curiosity than anything else.I'm looking forward to the better sound quality & fun features of the CD43. KC Boyce '97 M3 Crew Cab

I'm surprised they fit on our cars. Do you have to run a 20+mm spacer? Drive Safely, Raza

(I hope!) part2 Sorry for "spamming" the list with this, but this should be the last one, plus hoping someone else learns from my mistake. So I replaced the gasket only last week as the sender looked like it was ok. I used about 4-5gallons of gas, removed the sender swamped gaskets and filler her back up. I thought I was good to go. Day1, no problems. Day2, looking a little bit damp and I can kind of smell fuel. Day3, there's a "pool" there again. =( Dang it! I just filled it up too! I gotta either drive it around about 100miles to use some of the gas or siphon it to the wife's car. Well, since the car rarely gets driven, I decided to siphon it. The problem is the M is lower than my wife's car! I ended up having to siphon into a 1gallon water bottle. Then siphon that back into the wife's car. I did this for about ~3gallons! Was not fun, as I probably lost a good number of braincells from the fumes. Removed the old sender, and put in the new one. Refilled the tank, and it's looking bone dry. I'll see how it goes in a couple of days. Hopefully I can put the access cover and rear seat back on. Looked dry this AM as well. Point of my post? Well, if you're gonna go thru all that trouble, just swap the sender regardless next time! It's a $50 part and it's not worth the time I wasted going back and forth. Just swapping the gasket/sender is easy, provided I didn't fill up the tank to test it! Plus I figure each time I was siphoning gas out I probably increased the risk of making myself into an extra crispy piece of KFC! -kelvin

Apparently these wheels were also available on E36s too. Here's what they had to say: Brad Couvillon wrote: He says that the wheels are factory-optioned two-piece BBS wheels that he has never seen on another M3. That's probably because those 17x8 ET20 wheels were OE on the E39! Hey, the offset difference is ONLY 21mm. :-) Brady Kessler wrote: They do have a different offset.. They are not the E39 wheels unless they used the center and used a completely different rim and mated them up. A. There isn't enough lip, and B. you can tell it doesn't stick out far enough to be E39 wheels. I thought the same thing when I saw them but if you look the lip is much smaller. Here is a e36 with 5 series fitment or some times called the euro look.. :http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/kesslerbmw/various/sigshow1.jpg E39 wheels : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/kesslerbmw/e34/573773_1_full.jpg I bet those are some rare wheels. -Brady Brad wrote again: Well I'll be damned. Style 19s were available on the E36, too! The ETK shows it as a 17x7.5 ET41, which is the same as the E36 Style 5. Here's my page I made to reflect my ETK research on the Style 5 wheel: http://www.oo00oo.com/style5/ Looks like the Style 19 came in a very wide variety of dimensions, as well, although the E39 versions of both the Style 5 and Style 19 are the most prominent. #9. California legal cam kits? - from Mount, Mike

Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2006 12:21:35 -0700 From: "Mount, Mike" <JMMn@pge.com> Subject: California legal cam kits? Greetings all, been quiet pursuing two wheeled fun versus 4 wheels but the Schrick/Sunbelt cam kits have always intrigued me. 300 ponies sound like fun, maybe not quite as much fun as my '05 Ducati 999S, but 300 hp in a '95 M3 does sound cool. As a semi-amusing story to that comment, some guy thought his Cobra was fast and tried to impress me on my Ducati. I hit the brakes to keep from rear ending him after we left a stoplight and had to shift at about 5,000 rpm to avoid getting too close. Geez, how could anyone think that thing was fast? What a pile of ... Have any Golden State list'ers used the kit and found them to be able to pass CARB smog tests? Thanks, Mike

#10. To much toe ? Excessive rear tire wear ? Any ideas ? - from B Stoll

Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2006 12:42:36 -0700 (PDT) From: B Stoll <m3tec@yahoo.com> Subject: To much toe ? Excessive rear tire wear ? Any ideas ? Gruppe, About ~12k miles ago (1 year ago), I put on a new set of Yoko AVS AV1-40i, 235/40-17, 17x8 rims, on all corners. The "treadwear' rating is 160.. Alignment was checked at the same time. Pressures are normally 34 psi all around. These are the "old" style tires, with the large block-like tread pattern and little circles molded in each block. They are a soft compund for sure. I rotated the tires, front to rear. The rears are worn ~1/16" more than the fronts. Mostly flat and uniform, with a bit more wear on the inside edge (normal rear camber wear). Visually very noticeble difference. I searched the last 2 years of archives, but found nothing on excessive rear tire wear. Would too much toe-in create this wear ? Any ideas ? Thanks!
