I would buy it again. I don't have experience with the others. It gave the gearbox the nice mechanical feel. One thing I don't recommend getting is the ball bearings for the front of the carrier. I didn't feel they offered any additional improvement as well as turned a 30 minute job into a 2 hour job because of the b!tch clip. I will tell you first hand it's no fun. If you have the tranny down and can access it easily that's one thing but if you are only replacing the shifter there are better places to spend time. Good luck. steve -----Original Message----- From: mdriver13@aol.com [mailto:mdriver13@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, August 17, 2006 6:47 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] sloppy shifter - time for a change Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 09:36:55 -0400 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: sloppy shifter - time for a change Group, I've been noticing for some time how sloppy the shifting has become on the M3. I added the WSSR to the OEM linkage some time back but that really did not help much. I think it's time to replace the shifter, and I have a few questions for the group. First: which one is the best product these days - UUC, Rogue, B&M, etc.? Second: if I install one of these will it work with the 6-speed tranny I'm planning to install down the road or should I install the 6-speed tranny first? Albeit, there is a big cost difference here, so I really would like to do the shifter first and hopefully find a 6-speed tranny for "next to nothing". Guess that's called wishful thinking ;-)) regards, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe (sponsored by WCC & JT-Designs) Philly Region SCCA 2005 Philly Region BSP Champion ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. I'm really happy with it. Here's two thumbs up for the Rogue shifter - I have one in each car :-) I've driven a friend's car (briefly) with the B&M and didn't like the feel of it, but YMMV. Plus, Rogue is a list sponsor, can't go wrong with that. (Disclaimer: Ben and Rogue have provided parts and services for my race car, but they stay on the car because they work.) Define "better". See, not so easy :-) You can make small handling adjustments with tire pressues, so how you set them them depends on where you're starting from, what you're trying to achieve, and your driving style or what handling characteristics you're comfortable with. There is no "right" answer. There's only what is "right" for you. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

What started out (in my pea-brain), as an email request to validate that I was correct in this matter turns out to be much more difficult to answer. It's just like my career work in applied science where the answer is almost always -- "it depends"! Matter of fact, adding suspension parts to the car only seems to confuse me more when it comes down to how they make the car behave. If I'm lucky a change makes me quicker from cone A to cone B, but now I have to learn how to brake all over again (ie, new braking zone), or just a slow brain :-P But, I've got the time to learn and that's part of the fun of why we do this ;-)) Thanks for the comments, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe (sponsored by WCC & JT-Designs) Philly Region SCCA 2005 Philly Region BSP Champion ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. #8. start up squeak/groan - from Brian Ruiz
Top
Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 14:28:38 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: start up squeak/groan Hi all, I *finally* got around to pulling out my ICV last night to clean it without removing the intake (a bit of a task but very doable, especially if you have smaller hands). I pulled it out and on top of discovering a few hoses I need to replace, I was able to spray out the ICV pretty well (it was DIRTY!) I did this all in hopes of being rid of an unusual noise I get in the morning. When I put in the key and and turn it to the ON position (before cranking the engine), I get a weird combination of a squeak/groan noise. It generally starts as more of a squeak and then turns into a higher pitched groan. The sound lasts 1-2 seconds, and I think it seems to happen more often on mornings when it's colder. I was assuming this noise was the ICV moving into position once powered on, but now that it's clean, I realize it wasn't that at all. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brian build 8/95

Sounds like possibly one of the belt tensioners. I've had 'em replaced on the M3 due to noise.
