Like most things, you get what you pay for and while I would never work on a car supported only by the jack I would prefer something I can trust. thanks all for the information. I got one from Harbor Freight, and it is anything but a pleasure. First some wheels failed within 6 months of new, then it just hangs up on anything, including dirt on a concrete floor. It was a $50 creeper or so. #5. jacking plate - from Brian Ruiz

Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2006 21:24:02 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: jacking plate Hey all, Was wondering what you all think about the Victory Product versus the Pelican Parts jacking pads (or even Ultimate Garage? I can't find them on the site any longer however) I see the Pelican one is aluminum and costs a few dollars more, and I assume the VPD and Ultimate Garage units are steel (correct me if I'm wrong). What do you guys have/use and is there any advantage or disadvantage to the aluminum or steel or do any of you prefer one of them over the other? I guess this is all semi-dumb to ask, but I was just wondering if the quality first-hand of one of the units seems better compared to the others. Since of course, I am entrusting the lifting of my car to the welds on one of these things... Thanks, Brian build 8/95

It is indestructible, maybe a little rusty but hell for stout. I would think any of the various jackplates are fine - steel or aluminum. You really are not dealing with that much stress, less than 1,600 lbs if you lift up the whole side. Your bigger worry is deforming or tearing out the inserts on the car. I agree with Lowell, they are stronger than the area of the car they go into. My buddy has one..BEST creeper I have ever used. It rolls right over air hose and cords...Has big wheels and sits super low to the ground. I keep saying I am going to buy one But I don't really need one with a two post lift...Looks like a dog bone and is red.
