#1. Lower control arms replacement--tips? - from j. helffrich

Hi All, I have a pair of LCA's to replace on my 97 M3 sedan, and I got stuck. Went through the rear bushing unbolting and the subframe ball joint disconnect to the strut disconnect with no problems, I just couldn't get the last ball joint to let go,and didn't have much room to hammer with. Is there a trick to this, like steering the car to the side first? I'm also replacing the control arm bushings with stock M3 (non-offset rubber) type, and wondered if the holes need to be aligned in a certain way? Are there newer (maybe E46) bushings which are less prone to deterioration that I should look for instead? I know that there is at least one recipe for sticking the new one on the control arm, rather than using BMW lubricant> IIRC, one possibility is Windex--is that right? Thanks in advance, Jerry Jerry Helffrich __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

I didn't find them very blue -- I used Philips Cool Blue in my E30 Elipsoids, they were white to my eye, very nice actually. In fact I'd recommend the dual 9005 mod with those bulbs as a great cheap upgrade for anyone doing the usual 9005/9006 setup, it worked wonders on my E30. Would have done that on the E36 if the lenses weren't so pitted and the housing wasn't broken. Enter Euro pots... I'll go buy a stock bulb and try a side-by-side when I get the car back though. -Russ.

The US market SilverStars have a bluish cast and light output on a par with a standard H1 bulb. Tried a set when they were first out; disliked them for the same reasons. The Euro market SilverStar is a different bulb. I have been using the Euro Osram SilverStar bulbs for the last few years (ordered from PowerBulbs, http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/ ). Their light output is color neutral and appears a fair bit brighter than off the shelf H1's. They seem to last about a year - I suspect they get higher output by designing the bulb to be intentionally overdriven (6V bulb in a 12V circuit, for example). These are mounted in ZKW's, FWIW. - David

Yep, same thing happened to me a year ago. Once I have another M3 I will be replacing the cooling system completely ... Rex

I did the cooling system primarily because my thermostat had failed. Didn't seem wise to waste the opportunity to refresh everything. Obviously my wisdom didn't extend to the overflow tank at the time :) -----Original Message----- From: M3 [mailto:m3@cueframe.us] Sent: Monday, September 18, 2006 10:47 AM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [e36m3] Re: [E36M3] overflow tank :( Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2006 12:37:47 -0500 From: M3 <m3@cueframe.us> Subject: Re: [e36m3] Re: [E36M3] overflow tank :( Scott, How many miles are on your car? I need to make a note as to when to do all the cooling stuff. Jamie, I'm going under today for the short shift swap when I finish changing out the brake lines. Thanks, Bill Ft. Worth

If there was more light over stock the light color made it less useful as they tend toward blue. Honestly, I find the stockish yellowish lights to provide more illumination even if they've got lower candle power output. Gus
