It doesn't have a tossable feel to it, but feels very buttoned down, well damped, and stable. Engine is great -- very torquey, and it revs well too. Bummer that it doesn't have limited slip, and I personally despise the fact it doesn't have a spare tire. Beyond these two points, I was very impressed. Add to this the fact that it's very tunable (Shiv Pathak of Vishnu has gotten his hands on one, with good results), and makes 29mpg on the freeway, and you've got a winner. Don't know if I can live w/o a spare tire, though :) Scott. -----Original Message----- From: Gus Iverson [mailto:gus.iverson@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, September 25, 2006 4:17 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] '07 335i sedan Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2006 16:10:17 -0700 From: "Gus Iverson" <gus.iverson@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] '07 335i sedan Regarding the price consider (from a report of a local CCA member who test drove one): Suspension is *soft* and would likely be replaced by any of us Tires are run-flats and seriously squirmy No LSD By the time you ended up fixing the above issues, you'd have paid more than or at least similar to the cost of an E46 M3, I'd think. If so, then you have two problems. 1) 8" wide is really not suitable for 255mm wide tires 2a) the offset will push the tire more toward the wheel well and since you are not rolled -- they will rub in the rear 2b) they might work in the front with the 38mm offset but it will be close on rubbing the strut. #8. E46 rear wheel bearing replacement - HELP! - from RFKoby@aol.com

Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2006 22:52:27 EDT From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: E46 rear wheel bearing replacement - HELP! Hi folks, sorry for the cross post, I really need some help! I am working on a friend E46 323i to replace the right rear wheel bearing. I have the axle nut removed and cannot get the axle out of the rear hubs. I have tried penetrating oil, drift pin and sledge hammer. I have tried a gear puller to push the axle thru. I now have the entire trailing arm out and sitting in my 20 ton press trying to push the axle out of the hub AND IT STILL WILL NOT MOVE. I am afraid that if I apply any more pressure, I am going to break the cast iron knuckle / trailing arm. I have soaked the assembly with penetrating oil, and the oil weeps all the way thru the axle splines. But I still cannot get the axle to move. If anyone has an idea why the splines are frozen so tight and how to get this apart please send me an email. Also, if I do get this apart, how do I pressure the axle splines back together? thanks bob (about to order entire rear trailing arm)

I am betting many on this list will not be satisfied with the 335i. I had a 330i 4-door, sport package 5-speed, and while the power was quite similar to the E36 M3, the handling and grip was not. The car was very good for a normal sedan. But it wasn't sports-car good like the M3 is. I'm driving an Evo now, which is sports-car good. I am quite certain BMW is not going to build a non-M car with a stiff enough suspension setting for me. Maybe for some, probably for many. Not to say it could not be achieved with a couple grand in the aftermarket. I've owned 4 BMW's (one was for the wife) and 2 of those M-cars. The non M cars even with the sports package are really good sports sedans. But they are not even close to a sports car. M5 is very soft too, but it is still a really wonderful car that was fun to own for awhile - great memories. But no sports car there either. Plus, once the kids are old enough and out of car seats it is no big deal to climb in the back seat. I could easily go to a M3 coupe and still use it a great deal with the family. Not for long road trips, but most of us have other vehicles for that anyway I suspect.
