I'm either looking to buy two 235/40-17 Michelin Pilot Sports 1s or, i'm looking to sell a pair! My set has about 70% of tread life left, so ideally I'd like to find a match! I'm trying to create a matching set, unless someone else out there is trying to do the samething as me. So if you're looking to buy or sell, let me know! Thanks! -kelvin

#2. Barely passed CA smog - from Adam Lazur

Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 21:25:34 -0700 From: Adam Lazur <adam@lazur.org> Subject: Barely passed CA smog I took my car to get smogged today. This is the first time I've ever had to deal with emissions, so I'm not up to speed on all the fancy pants emissions stuff. My readings (variable width fonts may make this ugly for you): Test 15mph 25mph RPM 1705 2782 %C02 15.2 15.1 %02 0.0 0.0 HC(PPM) 85 44 HC max 85 50 CO(%) 0.15 0.13 CO max 0.50 0.47 NO(PPM) 324 90 NO max 695 717 Results pass pass My car is a '95 M3 with a dinan CAI and chip. ~95k mi. The max above are maximum allowed. My HC was right at the max. The smog tech guy was concerned that the "air box thermostat" was zip tied and dangling in mid air. Pic at http://adam.lazur.org/tmp/dangly-thermo.png Could this be the source of my high HC? Since I passed, I'm not in a horrible spot but I'd still like to sort out the high HC. In my research on what a high HC means, I've come across a long list of possible culprits. I did the plugs ~6 months ago, and the fuel filter a little while ago. The other possible culprits on my list are clogged injectors, coil packs, dirty o2 sensor. Am I missing something? Anyone have tips on pinpointing problems, or should I just go nuts and replace everything? ;) -- Adam Lazur

I failed the test once with a '98 with 45K miles on it. I had to drive it around on the freeway for a while to heat up the cats, then brought it straight in for the test w/o letting the car sit. Passed easily then. Probably yours is in the same boat - maybe sat for awhile before the test? Also, 95K miles and 10+ years on the original cat probably needs to be replaced. Figure on the list sometime in the next two years before you have to smog it again. That makes a big difference. Don't take it to a place where you have to leave it. -----Original Message----- From: Scott M [mailto:smlists@pacbell.net] Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 10:06 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Barely passed CA smog Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 21:44:35 -0700 From: Scott M <smlists@pacbell.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Barely passed CA smog Typically the cats. It's certainly possible. Here's the Zionsville info for a non-M E46 6-speed: <http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=613 4&Category_Code=6SPC>. I've ridden in a car with a 6-speed from a Z4 coupled to an M3 3.2 engine. UUC has published info for fitting an E46 M3 6-speed, which is more complicated because of the larger diameter transmission input shaft: <http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/98M3/upgrades/E46M3_6SPD/index.htm> Neil Fort Wayne, IN 96 M3 - Bastard child 03 525iT - Sterling Grey Metallic 05 Mini - Cooper S with LSD

I'm going to be asking him to do a bit of junkyard scrounging for me, I'm trying to think of what goodies I should have him look for. He's usually really good at haggling cheap prices also. I don't know yet if being in the military will give him access to any sort of shipping that might be less expensive than normal for large/heavy items (I'm hoping there might be) but for now, since I'm just looking for a list, if there's something I've overlooked, would you point them out to me? oil cooler w/ hoses & oil filter housing M3 evo large housing differential w/subframe 6 speed transmission driveshaft for above tranny - diff combo programmable wiper control (anyone know if this was stock on all models?) headlight leveling motors & wiring coolant overflow tank (probably cheaper to buy here in the US) S50B30 engine (just listing it here, I don't really want one, but didn't want anyone to think I'd overlooked it) Are the nice factory strut bars like the lightweights came with any more prevelant in Europe? Anything good I've overlooked? I've listed several items that I'd probably only get if they're dirt cheap, but this friend is good.... Thanks!

Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2006 16:36:16 +0000 From: kwill69058@comcast.net Subject: Need suggestions about antennae My E36 has an after-market Clarion radio/CD player that has terrible reception I think it is due to someone tearing the window tint from the rear window and taking with it the antenna material. Is there a way to add one that WORKS? I have purchased an after-market one that is not working well at all. I heard that one of the other BMW's uses an antenna in the bumper? Any help is appreciated ! Keith.

The higher you get the antenna the better they work. I deleted the antenna on a 86 535 one time and put a powered antenna in the roof next to the sunroof under the headliner.
