Just a wild guess, but I'd think > maybe an additional hour should cover that. Working with the hog-rings is a bit of a PITA, but not undoable. On the previous 328is and the current M3/4 I've removed half of the seat back cover to add some extra lumbar padding. Having some hog-ring pliers may have lessened the swearing <g>, but I was able to work with a good pair of regular pliers. To Steve (the OP), for $800-$1100, I'd give it a shot yourself. Even if you mess up and need to be bailed out by a shop, it couldn't be much more than that (BTDT :-)). And at least you give yourself the opportunity to save the money - not to mention the sense of accomplishment :-) Good luck, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

Does the SRS light reset itself, say if you disconnected the airbag, and then plug it back in. Or do you have to hook it up to the scanner to reset? All I can speak to is the effort involved for vaders since that's all i have first-hand experience with and that's what the quote was for. Although, I don't see how it could be $500-$800 worth of additional effort? Might as well just buy a new seat :) Is the main difference having to remove/replace hog rings on non-vader seats? I've not done that operation but I understand from some who have that it's not a big deal - especially if you have a hog-ring tool and have done it at least once before. Just a wild guess, but I'd think maybe an additional hour should cover that. A good alternative may be to take the seat to an automotive upholstery shop and have them do it. It's easy enough to get the seat out, disarm the seat belt tensioner, and cart it somewhere. Or should I just have the alignment guy go with the "factory" specs or should I "tweak" it a little bit? The stock suspension isn't really that adjustable. You can only adjust toe in front and toe and camber in the rear. I would ask them to use the stock settings since most of your driving is done on the street. ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com Elephant Motorsports Inc. http://www.elephantmotorsports.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

Problem: I don't know and can't find anything in the Bentley about this. Any ideas? Mel

#10. Good online source for metric (and many other) fasteners - from Kurt Hoofnagle
Top
Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 22:07:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Kurt Hoofnagle <kurthoofnagle@yahoo.com> Subject: Good online source for metric (and many other) fasteners Thought I would share a tip on a good experience I recently had sourcing small quantities of quality metric fasteners. I recently purchased the Turner RSM reinforcement plates and discovered that my RSM bolts were not long enough to accomodate the plates (the Turner plates are thicker than the Z3 plates). Not having a *trusted* local source for metric fasteners i began a quick Google exercise and found BoltDepot.com. Most other sites Google found required ordering in quantities of 10 to 100 units--BoltDepot indicated that they were happy to fill small orders. They had the size bolts I needed (M8x1.25x25) in stainless, grade 8.8 and grade 10.9--great selection (grade 8.8 was what my RSMs came with). Since I had a small order, I paid as much in S&H as I did for my fasteners, but the $8 for S&H was worth it for the time I saved trying to find a local supplier. I should add that the $8 S&H charge was also a function of them being in Boston and me California--it was not a flat rate. The order arrived quickly, everything ordered was there and each group of items was in its own labeled zip bag. I'm not used to this level of attention to detail in orders of parts costing hundreds or thousands of dollars--this was a $15 order! Very impressed. One more tip. I ordered their plastic US and metric thread gauges for $1.50 each. Much easier to use than my disk-style thread gauges and includes a ruler for determining fastener length. No affiliation, just a happy first time customer. I hope this helps someone else out. Kurt
