Here's the simple homemade solution I use. - Take a 1/4" drive allen socket, size unimportant except that the drive bit needs to be thick enough to span the Koni adjuster tab comfortably. - Make a mark on the drive bit where it goes into the socket, then pull it out (they're usually a friction fit). - Clamp the extracted bit in a vise, then use a thin abrasive cutoff wheel to cut off the external part of the drive bit insert. Cut a drive slot to match the Koni tab across the cut end of the insert. You want it to be an easy fit (so it won't get pulled out) on the adjustment tab, but not sloppy. - Now press the modified drive bit back into its 1/4" drive socket. A little epoxy wouldn't hurt. - Make reference paint marks around the socket at quarter turn intervals. I use red nail polish for this, but whatever colour you normally use is OK! - Mount this tool on a 1/4" ratchet handle to turn the Koni adjuster. Use the paint marks to keep track of where you are. I originally made this because one of my Koni DA's has a slightly stiff adjuster which tends to round out the cheap-ass plastic knob Koni gives you. However my tool also has the advantage of being low profile. For the fronts I use a screwdriver with the blade end cut off and a slot made in the shank. Or VPD sells a nice looking ready-made tool. Ever noticed how the Koni front and rear adjustment tabs are a slightly different size? Thanks a lot Koni. The thing is, I'm short on time so except for the tiny things, this stuff is pretty much PICKUP-ONLY in the Lancaster, CA or Venice, CA areas. If you can come grab it, let me know. Otherwise this stuff will be up for sale again at some point in the near future. All parts for E36 M3. 1) Euro 6-speed driveshaft. excellent condition. $200 2) stock front corners for coupe. $10 3) '95 M3 A/C trim plate. $10 4) a PAIR of BOSCH euro ellipsoid replacement glass covers, New In Box. $115 (don't think they will fit zkw) 5) rear springs from a '97 M3. $20 6) K-mac camber plates, used but freshly cleaned and bearings regreased $100 7) stock amber taillights for coupe. $20 I have a bunch of other random things... I think I have 1.8 complete E36 factory stereo systems, some odd Euro-only items: sail plate tweeters, rear console tissue/drink holder thing, odd pop-up cassette holders. Also a few odd pieces of 95 m3 trim. Also might have a set of '97 front strut housings and springs, but I'll need the strut hats from 'em. Also a stock set of swaybars, and if I have time (which is not likely), a set of Eibach Big-ass Red Swaybars with poly bushings. Please let me know if you're interested. thanks, scott --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.

#3. Cleaning track pad dust off wheels - from docwyte@comcast.net
Top
Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 17:34:35 +0000 From: docwyte@comcast.net Subject: Cleaning track pad dust off wheels Thought I'd share this with the group... I ran at the track this past Friday with PF97's all the way round. They put out a copious amount of dust on my BBS wheels. It was going to rain that night and in fears of the dust turning to cement I went to a self wash place and blasted the wheels with the hi pressure spray. That took most of the dust off. Then I drove through the rain to get home. Yesterday I took the wheels off to put the snows on the car and I was wondering how I was going to get the residual PF97 dust off. I saw a can of brake cleaner sitting on the shelf and thought, "Why not?" Sprayed it on a rag and it took the PF97 dust off like a hot knife through butter!! YMMV...

#4. Advice needed on plug condition + mystery fluid - from Peter Loron

Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 13:16:44 -0700 From: "Peter Loron" <peterloron@gmail.com> Subject: Advice needed on plug condition + mystery fluid So I was having a problem with the engine stumbling and hesitating. Threw a CEL indicating a bad coil, misfire, and injector on cyl #3. I checked the coils, and all were at the correct resistance. I did a plug change since I didn't know when it had been done last. All six plugs. Several of the electrodes were eroded. Are the colors and deposits normal? Plug well #3 had some liquid at the bottom. When I checked the boot, the liquid had wicked up inside. I soaked it up with a paper towel before changing the plugs. The liquid was strange. My first thought was that it was a mix of coolant and oil. It was less viscous than oil itself should be, and had a slight green/blue cast to it, although the predominant color was brown. If it was a mix of oil+coolant, it was totally blended...no separation was evident, and there was no "mayo". Also, the oil filler cap and the underside of the cover (as far as I could see with a flashlight) were brown and not milky. No drops of coolant were visible there. Plug #3 is the only place I saw any fluid in the well...all 5 others were clean and dry. After changing all the plugs and the boot for coil #3, I went for a short drive. No problems, and I did notice it being smoother. Also, a problem I'd had for a while (knocking sound under hard acceleration...like using cheap gas) also seems to have gone away. Any ideas on the fluid in #3? I know about the valve cover gasket leaking problem (and I have a new one on hand), but how would coolant get into the plug well? Maybe it's something else? Thanks! Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 21:50:16 -0400 From: "Stan Shaw" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Possible Sale of '96 M3 track prepared I am considering selling my M3 to buy another 928 race car (sorry). This will only happen if the right buyer is out there looking. I have owned it since 98' and while it is well prepared for track use, I have only tracked it for 15 days. It is still street legal. I have been considering preparing it for BMW CCA Club Racing in the stock class but it hasn't happened yet for me. I would suggest the motor be rebuilt before doing so, as it has 170k miles on it and is due to VANOS maintenance, etc. It is a '96 M3 2 door with 5 speed Lux with 170k miles. #7. factory alarm question - from Hunt Hodgetts

I have been thinking about getting the factory alarm for each vehicle and I was wondering if a two alarms can be set to the same code ? (so that the key fob would unlock either vehicle) If the factory alarm is not capable of this, are there any aftermarket systems that have this capability? Thanks, Hunt Hodgetts

If the two cars are ever within range of each other when the remote is used, it will cause an action with both. So if you want to unlock the one you intend to enter and the other is already unlocked, the second one will be locked at the same time as the first is unlocked. Could get wierd. If that doesn't cause concern for you, contcat a car audio dealer that sells Clifford or another of the good alarm systems and ask them. What I do know is that you can code a different button on the same remote to lock/unlock a second vehicle. Maybe this is what you're looking for.
