In autox, the introduction of the Hoosier 285/30-18 is what pushed most people off the 245/40-17. In street tire autox the Yokohama ADVAN Neova 265/35-18 has been used on a number of successful SCCA STU cars. I personally like the 255/40-17 RT-615 because it is cheap, durable, is (as/almost as) fast as the Yokohama and I didn't have to raise my car to get it to fit. I have a set on my daily driver Mazda 6 Wagon too, and they look they are going to make it 25K street miles. Rex

#4. windshield insurance claim - from Kelvin

Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 16:30:40 -0700 From: Kelvin <mpower@obikwan.com> Subject: windshield insurance claim All, I received a rock chip to my windshield a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think anything much about it, but it looks like it's going to "fissure" and "star" from the point of impact now. Any words of wisdom here? Is PPG glass as good or better than BMW? Is the windshield bonded to the frame like the E30M3s? I'm afraid I might get a piece of glass that has those "bubble pockets" in it. I'm going to have to watch the guy install it or something with a set of polarized sunglasses to make sure I have a good piece of glass! Any words of wisdom is appreciated! Thanks! -kelvin PS: I'm in the SF Bay Area

#5. OT: ameriprise insurance question - from Kelvin

Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 16:33:39 -0700 From: Kelvin <mpower@obikwan.com> Subject: OT: ameriprise insurance question Sorry for this OT post, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has used or have any comments in regards to Ameriprise insurance. They are an Amex company. My insurance for AAA is nuts, and I'm shopping around right now. Ameriprise, Geico, and 21st Century seem to be the cheapest (by far). AAA, Farmers, and StateFarm are pretty much the same. Statefarm is telling me I can get a 15% discount if I've been with them for 6yrs. I've been with AAA for 16yrs, and never a claim. Clean record, and i'm paying thru the nose! So the question is, any comments/experience with Ameriprise insurance? (car and home actually). They seem to have the package/coverage I'm looking for, and I would use them for both home and auto. Thanks! -kelvin

That's all well & good, but unfortunately you may still miss something and not notice it until it's in the car. Previous windshield, both installer & I looked it over in the shop before he installed it. Looked OK and he installed it. As soon as I sat in the car, I saw the wrinkle. Dammit! Replaced at no charge, of course. My 2 cents, Jim Bassett
