I am looking for a local E36 M3 or 3 series with a 245/35/18 hopefully on a ET38. Drop me a message at george.trilikis@gmail.com if so. I am considering going to this size and need to check it out first hand. Lunch is on me for anyone who fits the bill... Thanks, George T.

I wasn't able to see the pictures (the website never loaded properly) but based on what you described, many E36 M3s were like this from the factory and was simply how the metal was stamped. My E36 M3 was and is like this and has never been in an accident nor has any of the metal been deformed in any way. Either way, I would be checking to see if the paint was cracked or deformed or if the paint had possibly been resprayed. Regards, Rich

The Lightweights had cloth sport seats. Actually it was some sort of cloth/suede combination called Amaretta. It would have been much grippery than leather and I'm sure the seats weighed less. I'm curious what his reserve is. I'll bet it is $80K. I am intrigued by the offer to sell it as a "new" car. Would the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty be honored by BMW? The car does have an interesting, albeit short, Carfax report. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

#8. Re: [E36M3] Front Strut tower deformation - from Skip Bogard

Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 22:58:28 -0500 From: Skip Bogard <skipb@bellsouth.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Front Strut tower deformation I have a '95 M3 with a totally stock suspension down to the Boge shocks and BMW 17" wheels. Three weeks ago I took off the BMW LTW strut bar and saw that my passenger side shock tower had cracked. It had a 2 1/2 inch crack...standing from the bumper facing the windshield...the crack was at 2 O'Clock on the passenger front shock tower. The original purpose of my removing the strut bar in the first place was to install the BMW front shock tower reinforcements 31 31 2 489 795 as well as some new shocks. Well, clearly I was too late to save the shock tower. I was really mad to find the crack... the BMW dealer's shop I take my car to for every Inspection I & Inspection II never warned me to have these plates installed. What kind of Inspection am I paying for if BMW doesn't tell the shop guys to look for opportunities to install Engineering Changes? BMW NA should have helped me as a customer....I lost track of "all things E36 M3" on this list when my wife had a nasty blood cancer, so I don't even know when you guys first started discussing these reinforcement plates being available. I have about 2 years of unread Suzy's List emails still in my mailbox...it's hard to read email when your wife is getting chemo. I only stumbled on the thread about 2 months ago on this list or I would have fixed it sooner. Get this: I never autocrossed, never modified my springs or shocks, never installed sway bars or harder bushings, no camber plates...everything I had on my suspension was a stock BMW part. And despite that...I have now experienced the cracked shock tower syndrome. I am so incredibly disappointed with BMW...my first car, a 1966 Dodge Charger, had a frame & body that lasted longer than this car. It doesn't matter now though....two weeks ago someone hit me and totalled my M3 that I've had for 11 years. :( I've looked at replacement '95 M3's, the 335ci, Z4M Coupe, Cayman S, and a few other machines. I've decided to buy a Porsche 928 S4. It gets the same gas mileage at the Z4M Coupe but in my opinion is the better buy. I have a 2nd M3 (a 1998 with side airbags...I bought it for highway trips) so I will stay on this list. But, I'm not real happy with BMW North America....they've really hung this BMW Car Club Lifetime Member out in the cold when I needed help the most. Thanks for nothing BMW NA...you didn't take care of me, and you have nothing I want to drive anymore. - Skip > > From: "Rich Dorffer" <E36M3Digest@gmail.com> > Date: 2006/10/30 Mon PM 06:47:32 EST > To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> > Subject: [E36M3] Re: Strut tower deformation > > Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 18:47:05 -0500 > From: "Rich Dorffer" <E36M3Digest@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: Strut tower deformation > > > > > From: Jason Knight <knight2244@yahoo.com> > > Subject: Strut tower deformation > > > > A friend is looking at an e36 m3, and is quite excited to buy it, but has > > some minor concern over some undulations in the metal of the passenger front > > shock tower. > > > > http://tinyurl.com/ymlrre > > > > These "ripples" are somewhat visible in the engine bay pic in the ad > > for the car. However it should have the front reinforcements already installed. Oh and btw I drove a Z4 M coupe a few weeks ago at Road Atlanta, but in the paddock :(, me want! Sorry to hear about your wife. -Carlos 98 M3 <--already had 1 rear shock tower replaced
