#2. Bending brake hard line... - from Mo Karamat

Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 08:29:20 -0500 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Bending brake hard line... Dat, Hello. I borrowed a bending tool from my dealer and did the bend myself. The tool is a cylinder with different channels cut in it. All you do is gently flex the line around the channel that has the apppropriate angle in it. Just take your time, and keep looking at the original... Ask your dealer, can't hurt.. God luck Mo -------------------- 7 -------------------- Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2006 09:53:06 -0600 From: "Dat Quach" <quachd@gmail.com> Subject: Bending brake hard line... Has anyone had experience successfully bending a new rear brake hard line? I rounded the nut off while attempting to replace the brake lines. I'm referring to part number 6 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG93&mospid=47488&btnr=34_0458 &hg=34&fg=15 No local shops are open right now (Sunday), so I'm kind of stuck until I can get a new piece bent properly. All the tools I have found locally will not bend the small radius that I need. Thanks, Dat Hook 'Em!

I witnessed a relatively mint CRX si, (which sold for 11K in 1989), sell past 9K and it had 55K miles, it was a really clean 55K thou. Could be the gas crunch thou too! Putting the word "vintage" in front of the subject adds 25% to the market price :) I for one really appreciate the LTW, although I could never bring myself to actually use one as a daily driver and log lotsa miles on it without feeling guilty. Sorta like if you're a Star-Wars collector (which I am NOT btw) and removing C3PO out of box and playing with it in the sandbox. I've decided to buy a Porsche 928 S4. It gets the same gas mileage at the Z4M Coupe but in my opinion is the better buy. > However, a 928 is slower than all of the cars you mention, is much more maintenance intensive and is not in any way a modern car (designed in the late 1970s and not really updated much during its entire 22 year production run). The HVAC controls are all vacuum operated, the wiring color coding is completely random and you will have to re-tension the timing belt every 15K miles. And if you think the price of BMW parts is high just wait until you need a steering rack for a 928. I have owned three of them and I wouldn't take another one for free, although to be fair my friends who still own them are just as rabid about the car as always. > I have a 2nd M3 (a 1998 with side airbags...I bought it for highway trips) so I will stay on this list. But, I'm not real happy with BMW North America....they've really hung this BMW Car Club Lifetime Member out in the cold when I needed help the most. Thanks for nothing BMW NA...you didn't take care of me, and you have nothing I want to drive anymore. > Maybe there's more to this story than is in your previous email, but did you really expect them to repair your cracked shock tower for free? I have a track event at MSR Cresson next weekend, so I'm going to check them daily. For some odd reason, the brake pedals feels mushy to me (yes, I bled it properly), but I think it has to do more with the StopTech BBK that I pulled off. BTW, I have a used StopTech 332mm BBK for sale..$1200 plus shipping OBO. ;-) Bill, it is indeed Hook 'Em Horns! Thanks, Dat Hook 'Em!

A shock tower that cracks on an 11-year old car with no suspension mods is a poor design, as far as I'm concerned.. Makes me wonder if the strut tower bar caused unexpected stress on it? But you'd think this would have been studied when they added the bar to the LTW (and the GT, right?) But at the same time, the last thing in the world I'd expect is ANY manufacturer to fix that kind of thing after 11 years. Seems pretty unreasonable. Can't wait to see what Porsche has to say about repairing the problems you'll find with the 928 after you've had it a few years! > Maybe there's more to this story than is in your previous email, but > did you really expect them to repair your cracked shock tower for > free? Neither the former '96 328is nor the '98 M3 had free maintenance. 4yr/50K warranty was in effect by then, however.
