#1. RE: Clearance - Hankook Z211 Track Tires - from Ahmad Lutfeali

Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2006 16:48:34 -0500 From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: Clearance - Hankook Z211 Track Tires I have used these tires and LOVED them. Grip wise if Hoosiers are 10, these are 8 whereas RA1s would rank being 6. Wear wise, its strange, but they wear MUCH better than RA1s. I spoke with Gerry Low (another instructor on this list) and he got some CRAZY 30 days or so on his set. I had about 8 track days and they were 1/4 worn and performed great. Run them 38 hot (f) 39 (r). For $500, it's a no brainer. Stock them up for next year ;) Ahmad PS: Unlike RA1s, no need to get these shaved. The grooves are LARGE enough that they wont squirm (the threads are only 2/32 unlike 4/32 RA1s). Another good reason (more tire and money saved on shaving). PPS: 245s are out there but they cost $100 per set more. -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2006 15:12:05 -0500 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: Clearance - Hankook Z211 Track Tires About $500/ set of 4! These last very well, have good grip, but were discontinued due to a change in strategy - basically Hankook has decided to go after Hoosier with a super grippy DOT-R. These are available in 235/40-17 for M3 fitment - no other really great sizes left. Email if interested! This could make someone a fantastic deal. I owned a 2000 M5 that I sold with 50K miles on it a few years back for $42K. Wow, under $20K for a car in nice condition - you would be hard pressed to find a similar miles and condition 540i for that price. Granted, the M5 may require more $$ towards the maint and repair bill but at that purchase price you are so far ahead of the game already and one problem area the Vanos has been replaced recently. I can attest that the E39 is truly a fantastic car. And someone better jump on this so I don't do something irrational again ;-) ;-) BTW - I saw my first M6 up close today at lunch parked at the restaurant. Wow - what a beauty that thing is. I may need to pick one of those up in 6 years when they are going for under $30K :-) Scott Jamie Howton <jhowton@gmail.com> wrote: Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2006 15:16:38 -0600 From: "Jamie Howton" Subject: [OT] - FS, 2000 M5 Black/Caramel, 93K miles, Chicago I just purchased a 2004 645Ci and am trading in my 00 M5. After much negotiation I ended up at $18500 as the trade in amount. I am picking up the car on Friday so if anyone is looking for a car for not much money I will take anything over $18,500 if the deal can be closed quickly. My car has the following mods and is in fantastic condition for the mileage: Tubi Exhaust Rogue Octane SSK w/WSR Widescreen Nav with DVD Dension Ice link+ New Koni SA shocks Powerchip 93+ Gold Software Homelink V1 Hardwire Recently installed: New BMW windshield New Driveshaft New Front control arms upper and lower Rear balljoints MAFS x 2 Left Vanos and Intake CPS New cats x2 last year Car runs very well and is up to date in all of its service. http://www.howton.net/2000_m5.htm I was rear-ended in 2005 but the car was repaired to like new condition by Patrick BMW collision center. Anyway, like I said, I've got until Friday so move fast if you are interested. I am going to start removing the Nav and Icelink tonight and putting the stock wheels back on. I will not be parting out much more than that I just don't have the time. I am in NW Burbs of chicago, but am in the city every day. I bought one of the "kits" and it is holding nicely, but it does only replace the hoses and clamps on the reservoir/low pressure side. I'm with you, the Aeroquip line seems like a logical solution for the high pressure fitting. Jason Lombard '96 Dakar II/Black -- Thanks for the input Adam (and others). I did come across that "kit" on bimmerforums, but have a concern in regards to the clamping power of the basic worm gear clamps in that kit. I would think that BMW used a crimp clamp on the high pressure line, because a std worm gear clamp might not be stout enough. I did locate a few vendors who sell 5/8" wide, 8-tooth worm gear clamps that have a much higher clamping force. <snip> ____________________________________________________________________________________ Sponsored Link Mortgage rates near 39yr lows. $420k for $1,399/mo. Did you guys happen to catch the M 'Test Drive' show that was on Speed a month or two ago? They showed Hans Struck running the M6 up to 198MPH...would have passed 200 but someone pulled out in front of him. Yikes. I really don't like the styling of the new M6 but the performance and sweet sounds that engine provides makes me forgive the aesthetics. I am not sure if that show is available anywhere on-line...Speed does not show it in the lineup. I do have a copy on my Tivo that could probably find its way onto a DVD if anyone really wants to see it... Dave

That show is nothing more than a commercial for whatever auto mfg they are pushing that week, but occasionally it is entertaining. TK is a cool dude and awesome driver anyway. I personally like the styling. Not so much in pictures, but in person the car is just stunning - somehow photography doesn't capture it's essence very well. #10. Re: [E36M3] Heater question - from Brian Ruiz

Date: Thu, 9 Nov 2006 03:32:51 -0800 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Heater question Hrm... It does sound like a bad heater valve, but I guess it could also be a bad or disconnected actuating motor or flap problem. The heater valve is a bit of a pain to access, probably even more so on an OBDII car... not to mention it's a bit expensive just to throw the part at it. I think to test the situation, to be sure, (I'm assuming a lot here, but this would probably work) you could pull the center console and remove the heater box cover and see if the heater core is hot after running a bit with the controls set to full warm and the blower off. It should be plenty hot with no air blowing past it if the valve is operating properly (assuming here, of course, that the valve will open fully as long as the temp controls are set to full hot). In this case, it would probably be a bad actuating motor or broken/stuck flap problem. This seems a prime situation to apply Ockham's razor... This probably didn't help at all, but here's where I hope someone more experienced can chime in.
