Upgrades are currently free. There's a full featured BMW specific plugin for about $200 ($250?) that I'm told does everything a GT1 will do. Don Eilenberger did an article for Roundel on OBDII scanners. He used to be on this list. AutoEnginuity was one (if not *the*) his favorites. BMW is not just a brand to me. It’s a manqué which allowed me to come closer to the American culture (more to follow on this). I cant feel anything with these tires. They were supposed to be one of the best out there per all the reviews and everyone at tire rack said they were highly regarded. I took the plunge (I was originally going to get the Michelin cups) and ordered them. I think they are the most vague feeling tires I've ever driven with. It feels like I'm driving on ice that's how much they slide without warning. I've tried all different pressures but cant find one that gives me road feel. If you're using this tire, do you experience the same thing? If not, what pressures are you running? #9. manual transmission to auto conversion, and vice versa? - from bnmhead-bmw@yahoo.com
Top
Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2006 11:00:33 -0800 (PST) From: <bnmhead-bmw@yahoo.com> Subject: manual transmission to auto conversion, and vice versa? I'm looking into putting together a M3 3.2l sedan and a Eurosport twinscrew supercharger. I'm a bit picky on colors and options (I don't want it if it's dakar yellow or if it doesn't have split fold down rear seats) and I'm finding that cars with low mileage are going for a good premium. One thing I'm finding is that automatics seem to be more plentiful. I suspect also that an automatic typically probably hasn't been driven as hard as a stick - not that you couldn't, just the nature of a person who'd drive an automatic over a stick. Enter my current car, a '95 325i stick - as it is I don't really want to sell it, I've done a good job on maintenance and have replaced a lot of stuff. I have a son with cerebral palsy who's just getting to driving age. He's a bit challenged in the coordination department, but should be able to drive, but a stick might be a bit too much. I've got a Volvo station wagon for him to learn on, he's helping me rebuild the engine, once he's proficient (at driving), I'm thinking my car with an automatic in it could be a good fit for him. So I'm thinking about picking up a M3 sedan automatic and swapping the trans into the 325i. I know the 325i transmission won't stand up to the TS supercharger in the M3, but this looks like a great excuse to swap in an e46 M3 6 speed. I'll have to find one at a reasonable price first, but it along with a lightened flywheel \ M5 clutch combo, should make for a really potent setup. So, anyone with experience converting from automatic to manual transmission, and vice versa? Anyone know if there'd be any driveshaft length issues with the M3 transmission in the 325i?

#10. New winter shoes... - from Stefano G

Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2006 14:38:31 -0500 (EST) From: "Stefano G" <stefanoale@excite.com> Subject: New winter shoes... I live in 20 mile radius of NY and my 205/55/16 snow tires are on their last leg... I'm planning to replace them with all season tires since when it snows the roads are plowed regularly and I really hate how bad they are in the dry and even in the wet. Since I do get to see some serious craters on the road I was thinking of getting 225/55/16 or 225/60/16 replacements. YES the 60s are taller than the original tires, but I'd like the extra rubber ( I bent the 17s before) and the longer gear ratio. Specifically they are ~7% and 8% taller in front and rear. Since the rule of thumb is that <10% is ok, I hope to be alright. Anyone ever tried a similar setup? Stefano '98 M3 coupe w 17's not for much longer... _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
