#1. Intermittent brake light warning - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 11:34:44 -0800 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: Intermittent brake light warning That was the case with my 99 about a year ago and contact had been marginal such that the housing had gotten hot enough to distort it at the point of electrical contact. I had to reshape (read bend), slightly with small needle-nose pliers, the contact element to gain good contact. My wife's 97 328 is now doing the same thing same side as mine...drivers side...coincidence I'm sure. When I get the warning the brake light is out, wiggling the bulb holder brings the bulb back to life. I've cleaned the contacts once and I will have to do a better job again. They can wear out a spot on the taillight assembly and cause an intermittent issue as well. Jim Bassett

Makes me wonder, however, how Porsche can get 415hp out of a tame, nice idling, smog passing 3.6. You have to use crazy witch doctor voodoo on a BMW for that kind of power. Is the Porsche just a way better, more efficient design? BTW, I just installed my new UUC Corsa exhaust. Corsa claims "whisper quiet" when you want it to be. That's true (whisper is a stretch), but when you go WOT, there is NO WAY you will pass sound as Laguna Seca. It turns every head within 200 yards. My car may never have 421 hp, but it sounds like it does. :-) My 18x18.5" RGRs are in the mail from another lister. After that, I'm done.... The only Porsche powerplant that comes to mind that fits your description is the 996 twin turbo motor. It is much more difficult to make power with a NA motor than a turbocharged or supercharged engine. 421WHP is ~509 crank HP out of a 3.4l motor, figuring 18% drivetrain loss. Guess Chuck's still got the touch. :) Dave ----- Original Message ---- From: Dave DeBuhr <debuhr@comcast.net> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 5:37:11 PM Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: S54 Reliability Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 14:30:40 -0800 From: "Dave DeBuhr" <debuhr@comcast.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: S54 Reliability Dayum! 421 rwhp.
