I realize I'm moving at a snail's pace (resurrecting my own month-old thread -- it's been a busy month :) ). Thanks for your patience and for your assistance! Final (hopefully) question for folks: a few of you have mentioned the Stewart pump. I see it on the Bimmerworld site -- looks purdy. It's also $150 more expensive than the OEM unit. *any* actual functional benefit from this piece? It says it pumps more water -- I'm actually wondering whether this is a good thing. I worry about my heater core, and wonder whether more flow might actually cause more harm than good. Net: other than knowing you have a cool shiny bit in the engine, is there a good reason to go w/the Stewart unit? Thanks again, Scott. The sign's of failure on the water pump are the failure itself which could leave you stranded. Good time to upgrade to the Stewart pump offered by list sponsors and put that worry behind you. The only Porsche powerplant that comes to mind that fits your description is the 996 twin turbo motor. It is much more difficult to make power with a NA motor than a turbocharged or supercharged engine. 421WHP is ~509 crank HP out of a 3.4l motor, figuring 18% drivetrain loss. Guess Chuck's still got the touch. :) Dave
