I also managed to go airborne for the second time in a race car. Yes, the two issues were at the same time...weeeeee (ooooffff!). Anyway, I am looking to buy 1, 2, or 3, Kosei K-1 in 17 x 8.5 wheels. Scratches ok, as long as the wheel is straight and true (and has not been straightened). I'll bend them myself... Thanks, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

Eventually the drivers side stopped working and wouldn't respond to jiggling. I removed the holder and found the thin metal contact strip in the taillight housing was burned through right where it contacts the bulb holder. I checked the passenger side and found the same burned contact strip, just not quite as bad. You might want to check to see if your contact strip is burned through. Mine was unrepairable (soldering didn't fix it). So i bought new OEM taillight housings a few months ago and i have not gotten the BRAKELIGHT FAIL message since, so in my case it was burned contacts that were causing the failure message. Just another data point . . . . :-) Randy

#7. buying new ignition coils - thoughts? - from Theodore Serbinski
Top
Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2006 01:14:33 -0500 From: Theodore Serbinski <stanson@gmail.com> Subject: buying new ignition coils - thoughts? Hey folks, So I've been getting check engine lights about one of my coils and then misfires as a result for that cylinder. It comes and goes. So I'm thinking about replacing it and the rest of the lot. I have a 1997 M3 with 111k miles on it, and Bosch spark plugs replaced last year, a little over 6000 miles ago. What do people recommend? Replace all 6 coils? Only one of them? I thought you should replace them all at once and with so many miles on my car and it's age, figured that can't hurt (except my wallet ;-)). If so, who to buy from? Bavauto has those high performance ones that are on sale right now. For the same price, Pelican Parts <http:// www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/catalog/shopcart/BE36/ POR_BE36_ELignt_pg1.htm> have an ignition super kit with the plugs, wires, and coils. Or of course I can go OEM too and just get the coils (wires too should I?). Any general thoughts or tips would be welcomed. Thanks (and Happy early Thanksgiving!) ted

Hard to say, I think, if the bad coil is a sign that all are near failure or if it is just a bad egg. If you replace one, and then another goes, you could replace the remaining ones. I've never seen any evidence for the supposed benefits of the 'super' coils for our cars. I don't remember the troubleshooting path, but I assume you moved the coil to another cylinder and the misfire followed the coil? > What do people recommend? Replace all 6 coils? I'd lean toward replacing them all with that mileage, especially if you plan on keeping the car for the foreseeable future. > If so, who to buy from? I've had good luck with the OEM stuff Bimmerparts.com. > Or of course I can go OEM too and just get the coils (wires too > should I?). Interesting that they show separate coil packs and plug connector for the '97 M3. When I replaced all the coils on the race car, they were purchased as one complete assembly (also from Bimmerparts.com) - must be a difference between 325s and M3s.
