(?!?!) > Any dealer can order Euro parts... Our chapter CCA meeting was at the local BMW dealer last week. One of the speakers was a lead guy from the parts department. One of the things he told us is US dealers are no longer allowed to order Europe- only parts. This is a new policy. He said if he tries to get Euro parts they will be blocked by NA or AG (I don't remember which one). No mention of what defines a Euro-only part. So things like convex mirrors may or may not be affected. Parts guy said there is no restriction on Canadian dealers, so for those of us in Buffalo and Rochester (Genesee Valley Chapter) we could always go to Toronto (about 3 hours by car) if we were desperate. I have not tried to order Euro parts recently. I'm just passing this along as fresh information. Bikesh will always be rememberd for his willingness to lend a helping hand. Who could forget his 95 325 automatic sedan with TMS installed supercharger, big brakes, and LTW decals! The race car's gets clean more frequently, about every 3-4K miles, depending on how dirty it is (i.e. how much other people's dust I've had to drive through :-)). I've got two different ones, one the ITG, foam type on my M3 as part of a Conforti kit and the other is an AFE cotton/gauze type on my 325. It was the 325 MAF that died - it was also last minute just before a track event. Hey maybe it's the anticipation of a track event that kills the MAF sensors :-) Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '93 325iS JP 110 '02 X5 4.4 '02 325iT/5 -----Original Message----- From: Carlos Lopez [mailto:clopez98m3@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 10:04 AM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] buying new ignition coils - thoughts? I thought for sure I would kill the MAF/HFM whatever it is in my '98 M3 after I cleaned and oiled my ITG filter (used too much oil in my opinion). Last minute thing right before a track event so I just went with it. Finally a month later when I had time to inspect the MAF it is perfectly clean, no oil went downstream AFAIK. I inspected all the connections, boots, throttle body, etc. Now on the killing the DME thing (CPUs?? ;-) ), a close friend with an E30 M3 had a couple of resistors fried inside the DME and it was caused by a bad idle control valve. Tried another DME and that one got fried also. Finally replaced the ICV and that was the end of the fried resistors. Luckily someone had info on which resistors to purchase from da Shack and a friend with mad soldering skillz was able to fix both boards. Symptom of the fried resistors was a hunting idle. Fixed after the new resistors were soldered in. So these BMW guys suck at FMAs. ;-) We actually do FTAs here (fault tree) because our VP of Engineering came from Honda and they are big on those things. #9. New track car project - from Tucker Ryals
Top
Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2006 11:07:54 -0800 (PST) From: Tucker Ryals <tuckerryals@yahoo.com> Subject: New track car project Gruppe, A friend and I are the proud new owners of an '87 325is as of this morning. It was up for sale at a local auction and we stole it for $175! The goal is to turn it into a dedicated track car. Cage, seats, suspension, wheels, and (M3 related content) an S50/52 swapped in. Interestingly, the interior is already completed stripped, save the driver's seat and dash, including all of the sound-deadening material. We can only assume someone was building a track car of their own but abandoned the project. With that in mind, we are in the market for any and all related items to accomplish this task. Please consider this an open solicitation for any of your used (or new but no longer needed) parts that we might need. In fact, was it Gary who just mentioned an engine he is selling?? We're excited about the project and look forward to diving in, wrenches in hand. Any advice would be appreciated.
