Hello Russ, This is what I am using in my Euro clear turn indicators: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/ECatalog/ Click on the Signal Lighting link for a list of applications, in this case the 1156 for the rear and 1157 for the front. These have a bluish silver look to the bulb some may think is a little ricey for a BMW application but the bulbs are readily available at major auto part stores. Another source I have not used but seems to be comprehensive is: http://www..bimmian.com/sol These bulbs have a nice silver/chrome look and probably would disappear in the reflector of the Euro lights. I have also noticed on several new X3's, Mini's, etc. that the factory is using a silver colored signal and brake light bulb, however I do not know what bulb base is used for these applications. These *may* be Phillips Silvervision bulbs which are very high quality and hard to find in the States. A call to a good dealer parts dept. may be helpful. #2. Short final drive ratio/6-speed - from Mo Karamat

Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 08:54:48 -0500 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Short final drive ratio/6-speed Neil, Hello. I had a 3.15 in my 95 M3 race car when I first built it. My old track car was my 98 sedan with the 3.23. Everyone said that the "difference" was so small that I should not notice anything.. Well I can tell you that even though numerically they diff's are very close the difference made a HUGE change in what gear I wanted to be in at any given track. I hated the 3.15. I recently bought a 3.64 diff from Koala, and WOW what a difference in acceleration.. The one issue I need to be careful of now, is running out of gears.. My point here is that even if the diffs are very close numerically, the delta on your driving was definately noticeable... Regards Mo 98 M3/4 - stock - 3.23 stock diff 95 M3 #786 IP - 3.64 Custom Koala diff 91 325IX - 4.10 stock diff. OTOH the difference between 3.46 and my existing 3.23 is only about 7%, or 250 rpm at freeway speeds, so maybe it's either a) not worth worrying about, or b) fitting a 6-speed suggests being more aggressive with the final drive ratio.

Maybe the bad driver beltway per my son but definitely not the show belt. Even where I live in upstate NY, it's not considered the snow belt but we still get 5 to 10 times the snow of DC. I have yet to get stuck or have any problems in my M3 or '86 325 but I have real snow tires which have gotten me through some serious snow in Buffalo and Rochester and occasionally Saratoga. My son who has lived in the DC area for 5 years finally broke down and replaced his all seasons on his '93 325 with snows this year because he needed new winter tires and runs Ultra performance summer tires. I've plowed snow in my M3 with the splitter and Blizzak LM-22s here and would never consider an iX. Well, maybe if I lived in Watertown or Syracuse. It was very reliable and never gave us any trouble. I put snows on it in the winter and it was amazing - I went absolutely motoring by people stuck in the snow up and down hills, etc. What a great car. At that time the all-wheel drive wasn't dynamic, I believe it was always 60/40 rear/front drive bias. Later on (2004+?) I believe they moved to the "x-drive" where it is more of a dynamic distribution of power but I *never* needed more control than I had. Fun in the summer, safe in the winter - a great car! #10. Subframe Bushings: Solid or Other? - from twisty M3
Top
Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 14:18:24 -0800 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: Subframe Bushings: Solid or Other? The car is a '99 M3 with close to 175K miles on the clock and still running on the the original subframe bushings. All feels fine, but I'm going to change them out (or *have them* changed out) within the next week or two because of a potentially busy track season coming up. The car is still on the slow journey to club racing (IP) but it will always be driven to and from the track (I simply don't have the space or money for a tow vehicle and trailer). The car might be ready to go at some point next season, but it's a track car either way at this point. I was originally thinking of the Powerflex subframe bushings but have run across a few reports of failures here and there (possibly with early versions?) and I've had a couple of people recommend the solid mounts (such as those that Turner sells... aluminum, I think). Anyone care to give feedback good or bad on the choices available? I think it boils down to urethane, solid (aluminum??) or delrin (but I'm not sure who sells delrin subframe mounts)... and, of course, OE.
