On a corner the back left drivers seat "twists" to the left and you loose the rigidity necessary to keep a firm seat position. It is rather irritating. Shel

Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 19:36:39 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: Lazy drivers seat - found answer I pulled apart the rear of the seat and found that the hard plastic rear backing on the back on the seat is all one solid formed piece and sure enough the bottom left corner of it has a stress fracture... It is significant enough to cause the movement under load (I'm really not that much of a "load"). It looks like my options are to go to the stealer and special order the backing at around $150, get a used balck vader no power seat or get out the assortment of glues, etc.. The leather is in great shape so I'm assuming getting a used black vader would be cost prohibitive?? Shel

Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 19:41:48 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: Issue du jour - wacky gauges I've been through the car pretty thoroughly and replaced the normal items of control arm, stabalizer links, assorted rad hoses, flushed radiator, belts, tensioners and steam cleaned engine a bit. I've had the gauges go off while driving all together, had the check engine light come on, air bag light come on and then everything return back to complete normal. electric gremlin from my minor steam clean?? check control was fine and the car ran great. Anything else this could be symptomatic of? What do they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. After a long mentally exhausting day at work, 3 small children this is my therapy. I'm getting my fix but don't want to break additional things for therapy :) Shel

So the car itself didn't die, just the gauge panel? Only once? I'd chalk it up to a "gremlin" from the cleaning. Unless it re-appears. :-) My 2 cents, Jim Bassett

Hmm, that sounds like a "real" problem :-) Haven't had the cluster out recently, have you? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to check the fuse box area - make sure everything is seated, connected tightly, and dry. I had a mildly-similar problem on the race car, except the motor would cut out as well. Turned out to be a loose ground wire. The main one for the DME :-) Jim Bassett

Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2006 19:34:13 -0800 From: "tom eby" <thomaseby@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Lazy drivers seat I've had the vader side bolster, bottom weld, break. The entire seatback then felt very floppy and unsupported. It's a one-sided weld to the cross-bar (hollow roundstock) at the base of the seat back. If you remove the seatback cover you may spot the break. I first tried a quick JB-weld attempt, which didn't work. I then bought the replacement part (52 108 187 9 98 $45.00) and R&R'd it. You'll need a T45 bit socket to remove the seatback from the bottom frame (4X). No tricks and takes about 1hr.
