#2. High Performance Cats - from Neil Maller

Date: Tue, 02 Jan 2007 13:26:21 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: High Performance Cats Have any of you on the list tied high performance racing cats? We're looking at one of these for a friend's racecar that gets driven to the track. Here's one example: <http://stores.channeladvisor.com/verociousmotorsports/items/item.aspx?itemi d=3535414> of which two would be required for an M3. And another: <http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_10251_-1 _10245> Fitting any of these would require cutting the stock cats out and welding in the new ones, but that's not rocket science. Potential advantages would seem to include weight reduction and reduced exhaust restriction while still retaining the ability for street driven cars to pass emissions testing (as opposed to fitting a so-called track pipe). Expense doesn't seem unreasonable. It ought to be possible to buy a pair and have them welded in by a muffler shop for around $400. For comparison a DEC bolt-in original pattern replacement cat section runs about $500. So, anyone? #6. Hankook R tires - from Gus Iverson

Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2007 12:00:27 -0800 From: "Gus Iverson" <gus.iverson@gmail.com> Subject: Hankook R tires http://www.aimtire.com/ I've been looking for prices on the T1-Rs as possible street tire replacements and stopped by AIM. They've got the Hankook Z-211 tire for 118 each! Any thoughts about this tire? Anybody used them? Is this a good price? How do they wear? I'm a fan of the RA-1s simply because they're so ubiquitous I've had great luck scrounging spares (2 full sets of used tires last year for $100) and I'm used to them but this price is hard to take a miss on. Any recommendations for an adjustale droplink? Any that you have tried and would no buy again? Turner has a great price on replacement stock droplinks (~$23), but their adjustable ones are scary (~$100). I know I only need one and will only be buying one adjustable and one stock replacement. AFAIK, F sway bar end links are not "sided". Graeme: I am only aware of the Turner ones - I have the same config (1 adjust, 1 stock) on the race car. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP
