I was just so so amazed with the B6 (gobs of torque, super nice interior) that I almost closed the deal on the 30th. Somehow I never fell in love with my 328i (E46). Its just ummmm. One of the local guys here offered me to test drive his car with coil over and larger and wider wheels (17 *8). Plus I have all weather tires with stock suspension, plus its not a 'go' type of car (perhaps the auto?). Audi's are a financial suicide (for a lack of better term). A 2005 S4 with all options and 18K miles has a residual of low $30K (hence a good value here and I do plan on keeping the car for another 5 years) compared to an 05 M3 which still is in the $40K range. The 2000 B5s with 80Kish goes for $13Kish plus add some minor go fast goodies (the B6 felt amazing out of the box). Problem is, there really aren't a whole lot of 'reliable and fun' sedans out there. I have made an appointment to go and test drive some 03-04 ZHP 330i (this will be a daily driven car since the E36 is a dedicated track car). Ahmad

Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2007 00:08:32 +0000 From: docwyte@comcast.net Subject: Re: [E36M3] RE: S4 There's a complete lack of a "true" sports sedan now that BMW stopped making the 4 door M3. If they'd made a 4 door E46 M3, I'dve bought on in a heartbeat. Audi's are great cars to buy off lease, CPO'd from the dealer. After 3 years you can get them for almost fifty cents on the dollar and they come with a bumper to bumper 100k mile warranty. You save yourself all the depreciation and you're covered under warranty for a long time... A local dealer here has a '05 S4 avant and they're asking $20k less than a new '07, now that's some depreciation, $10k a year, ouch. You should be able to find a B5 S4 with 50k miles on it or less for under $15k. The B6 has a nicer interior with the recaros, and the V8 has great torque, but it doesn't have the power potential of the B5. -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> > Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2007 15:03:21 -0500 > From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" > Subject: RE: S4 > > > I will let the emotions subside and go test drive the cars again. Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2007 19:27:05 -0800 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: whiney squeak Hey all, I'm thinking my alternator bearings are getting shot, as when then car is running, there is a bit of a squeak that changes in correlation with engine speed. It seems a little bit louder when the engine is cold, but it could just be my ears tricking me. It sounds a little like the belts are slipping very slightly, but as the belts are only a year old and they feel tight, I really doubt it. Anyway, anyone ever experienced this noise? Is this noise a common indicator of a failing alternator? If it is my alternator, I wanted to confirm that the 140A and 80A Bosch alternators were interchangeable without any modifications anything. Or perhaps my PS pump...? hrm... I don't really know how to diagnose this one for sure.. Brian build 8/95
