#1. Rear tower bar effectiveness? - from Rex Tener

Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2007 09:25:54 -0800 From: Rex Tener <rex_tener@yahoo.com> Subject: Rear tower bar effectiveness? I am no mechanical engineer, but IMHO, I don't see how a rear tower bar does anything but add some bling to the trunk in our cars. All the significant lateral forces should be handled by the rear suspension, even with the rear shocks removed. All the vertical forces can be handled by a Z3 reinforcement plate and good shock mounts. Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com PS: If this is a religious issue, I am sorry for bringing it up after being on this list for eight years. :-)

Best times to do something like this are: 1) before a long trip where you'll burn the entire tank in one shot, or 2) right before an oil change as you could get *stuff* from the cleaning process mixing with your oil (or maybe not), or 3) right before a fuel filter change out. BG-44K is really good at cleaning the fuel system, but it is hard to find (not that Redline SI-1 is all that easy to find...). It was a map of the US that could be given points of interests. I think I recall one for M3 owners. If I didn't just dream this, it could be used equally for people with code readers. I'll do some searching if I have time later. A quick search of www.bmw-m.net didn't quickly yield what I was looking for. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Although knowing me, I'd take a couple months to get it completed. It could be a very simple web interface with a simple search to list people who submit their info for SRS and Oil/Service reset tools or otherwise. I think this would be a great resource more specific to us more hardcore enthusiasts who wrench on our own cars. Brian build 8/95

When you fit a front bar the required effective length depends on if and how you've jacked up the car. Which definitely tells you something about the E36's need for a front strut bar...
