Try pulling up the back seat and checking the access port (and O ring) on top of the fuel tank. Apparently that ring and some of the hoses coming off the fuel pump can leak. Where do you suggest I > start to diagnose this problem? My guess would be the door lock actuators - I've replaced all 4 on the M3 (one or two of them twice). Typically a door (or two, in your case) will cease to lock/unlock via any aspect of the central locking system (remote locking, alarm, console button, etc), but will still mechanically lock by using the key directly in the door (front doors only, obviously) or by using the interior lock knob. Determine if the lock still works mechanically (it could be a broken linkage). If so, then chances are it's the actuator. They are ~$40 IIRC, and not too bad to replace (the rear ones are much more of a PITA). The Bentley manual has a fairly good procedure for this. A T-30 torx is the only "special" tool I can recall needing. Might want to have a couple of the interior door panel clips on hand as well, you never know :-) Hope that helps, Jim Bassett

#10. Hunting idle - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Tue, 9 Jan 2007 21:29:37 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: Hunting idle To start, I've read the threads and conforti's post back in 2002.. My problem is at idle with the car warm the idle hunts between the dreaded 400 and 900 rpms about 6 times before resting it it drives me CRAZY... I've removed the idle control valave under the manifold (Bentley says to remove the manifold but you don't have to). I cleaned the valve with and checked vacume lines. No issues. The car has the following: TMS performance package (Euro HFM, 24lb injectors, chip) LTW flywheel and M5 clutch AA exhaust w/o cats (not bragging about it) The car runs great under load and sounds like a V8 but I can't figure out the idle. Turner says their package shouldn't have any effect on my symptom. I've had someone even suggest the LTW flywheel may be too light and therefore be causing the problem... What do I do to systematically eliminate / isolate the hunting idle (please don't say to change the flywheel :) Shel 1995 M3 2002 Boxster S
