The rate was much better than a car loan and the interest is tax-deductible. There is a bit more paperwork, and it takes longer to process. In my case, the bank's loan rate was dependant on the age of the car. My bank is extremely flexible (though less so in the last year) when it comes to this stuff but in general most of the time it is still going to come down to the "retail" value. If you're lucky, and you need it/want to do it, perhaps you can purchase a vehicle when the market price is dropping quicker than book retail can keep up, then you can borrow more than you spend. Course the danger there is that if the car gets totaled you end up owing more than the insurance company will pay. Lots of variables though, certainly lots of risks too. Jack Money

That is pretty funny: my new loaded Mini Cooper S cost $29K and change two years ago. On the other hand I haven't had to do a thing to it except for normal consumables. What would turn me off is the "track pipe". I assume this means you have no cat? This means illegal to most folks, not passing emissions, and a several hundred dollar outlay to do so. If it doesn't mean no cat than you should clarify what it is. I also agree with the winter issue. My car hasn't even been started in over a month! BTW, I have a 95 M3 with 50k miles. I'd like to think it is still worth $15-$17k. Carl

Due to the very tight access to some of the studs and my 96's secondary air manifold being in the way they weren't that easy to install - even with the head off and on the bench. You should be able to do the R&R in a combination of working from above and below. You'll want a good assortment of small tools (e.g. 1/4" drive) including wobble and universal drive adapters. Be prepared for some of the studs unscrewing from the head on disassembly. Don't look for huge gains from the headers though, plus consider the recent thread concerning other bottlenecks in the 95 M3 exhaust system. Red might get you tickets, (raising hand), but as long as it's not faded out it sells a car quick. Had a dealer tell me he was adjusting my trade negatively because of the hot blue color once, (jeep wrangler islander package), and my 75 530I in pastel blue sat for awhile before being sold for exactly what I paid for it, although I hardly drove it for free. Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 15:15:27 -0800 From: <jbjerke@charter.net> Subject: Re: Red I was curious as to why several said this. Red is one of my favorite M3 colors. It seems 90% of BMW's are black or silver (at least in the midwest) so I'm kind of tired of those colors. Besides, black is a pain in the a$$ to keep clean. Due to this I've always preferred the Helrot, Alpine, Estoril, Avus etc. YMMV, but I've never heard anyone say red is a tough resale color. Now yellow and copper I understand as I feel those may narrow down your target audience. Just sold my Wife's helrot E46 and had several looking for that particular color.
