Didn't hankook comeout with something? Any feedback on those?" I have a set of 235 40 17 Hankook Z212 that I've been using for both AX and track tires. Last summer I ended up leaving them on the car all the time, so really they were a street, track and AX tire. Wear like iron! I have a set of the Z211 (RA-1 like R-Comp from Hankook) that I want to put on those rims, but the Z212 haven't worn out yet. For street driving, they are good, albeit a bit squirrelly in the wet; for track driving they provide great feedback and slightly better traction than Toyo T1R or B-Stone SO3, but not nearly RA-1 levels; and for AX (your real question) they just don't seem to warm up enough to get the job done. They don't squirm or wear funny, they just don't stick as well as RA-1's. I'm not disappointed, but they just didn't come close enough to RA-1's level of grip. Thus I bought the Z211 - I'm hoping they are somewhere between the Z212 and an RA-1 in wear and closer to the RA-1 in traction. Once I get some laps on them, I'll post a review. I've seen quite a few AXers in the area (SF Bay Area, CA) using Falken Azenis RT-615 and they seem to like them, so you might consider those if you are looking for a street class AX tire. Hope this helps... David 96 M3 - wearing Toyo T1R for the NorCal "winter"

I meant to ask is this just a new >part number or is it really a new part with a new part number. So, this new part number 33-32-6-770-817 is interesting. It does not have the flange on one side like the old RTAB's and the bushing tin material is actually two separate pieces that looks like they get squeezed together when you install them. I will try to take some pictures tonight. Rex

Had to order the proper ones from pelican. They are in no way a proper replacement for the M versions. Dave T.

The GTO, also made by Holden has been pretty solid in the quality dept. Interior is really top notch. I think it has serious potential to be a really good car. Heavier than a 335, however - I think it will be up in the 3800lb range, closer to a 550i. Size will likely be half-way between 335i and 550i, either way quite a bit bigger and heavier than an E36 M3. I have never rebuilt calipers, but I don't think it would be that difficult. Any tips? I've looked at the instructions at Pelican. I've been considering just replacing them to save some time. Where's a good place to purchase genuine OEM (made by ATE???) calipers? Pelican shows $450 each! If that's the going rate, I'll find time to rebuild. If I re-build is it good to replace the guide bushings too? Go with the brass bushings? This is a street car that is used mainly for track days. Jeff Bjerke 98 M3 Coupe 05 TL 6-Speed

#9. 98 S52 Longblock Being Considered that had Light Fire as Motor Replacement for 96 M3 - from Stan Shaw

Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 05:27:30 -0500 From: "Stan Shaw" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: 98 S52 Longblock Being Considered that had Light Fire as Motor Replacement for 96 M3 I am considering the purchase of a long block that came from a 98 M3 that had a light engine fire. 1. Am I crazy to consider this? The seller has good references. 2. I know I should be concerned that the motor was "money shifted" and then had an engine fire to place an insurance claim. Is there any way to confirm the motor has not been money shifted? The seller advises of 185+ compression with less than 5% variation on all cylinders, as well as 9% leak down at 90 psi on a cold engine. 3. Should I be concerned about the motor having inhaled any chemicals from a fire extinguisher? If so, is there any way to check, or any way to clean without disassembly? My intent here is to get a simply stock replacement for my 96 M3 motor to club race the car. The current motor has at least an spark plug threaded hole issue and possibly a slight warped head plus 160k miles, so rebuilding could take quite some time and be expensive. If I buy this used motor, I can review my current motor at my leisure and use it as a backup, one to build up or one to part out. I am in digest, so direct responses would be appreciated. Thanks! Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 07:11:16 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Rear Calipers I just rebuilt mine and it is very simple. You don't even really need an air compressor. I didn't want to start mine up in the evening so I actually used a bicycle pump for compressed air. Unless the caliper is corroded rebuilding is simple and cost effective. The hardest thing is getting the rubber boot over the piston when putting back in. Turner has the rebuild kits for $15 or so. I remember selling a couple used calipers a couple years back for $100 for a pair. I can't imagine paying more than $150 a piece new... Shel
