Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2007 17:12:27 -0500 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: OT: air tanks - safety aspect Group, I just received the latest Harbor Freight mailer and they have a 7 gallon aluminum air tank for $50. My question is; my present 5 gallon black painted steel tank is starting to show some rust around the welded ends. I've used it for autox duty over the past 5 - 7 years. How long do they last? I'd hate to be on the receiving end of a blow-out when filling this thing to 110psi! Note: I recently bought an air compressor and added a water catcher to it. I'm surprised at the amount of water in compressed air so I know some of that has collected in the tank over the years rusting it from the inside out -- I suppose?! Any comments on this topic are welcome. The comparison test was done on a Ferrari 360 Modena which has a very similar steering system to our cars by a Ferrari club member. I use it and believe it is mineral based. I was sent the thread by my cousin's husband whose hobbies include large yacht racing and Ferrari collecting. I'll look in my own archives and see if I saved it. I might have just filed the information away and deleted the message during my "when the hard drive fails and you don't want to restore everything from the stale backup" moments. The bar is the Glass Moon Tavern in Mechanicville, NY with an obvious NASCAR connection. We have one of 2 #8 Budweiser hoods in the region from what we have heard. We are trying to do a food special from the track area for each race. We have a pretty good handle on most of the eastern and southern tracks but in this part of the country, (upstate NY, rural, a little redneck) California is like another country. We have some good German beers on tap, Warsteiner, Spaten Optimator, and Franziskaner plus 8 other imports and American beers in name only.
