They are colored to match the door covering. They do cost a fair bit of money, over $80 the last time I needed one. IIRC. There is no magic to installing them. Remove the trim around the door latch. Prise out the two plugs behind the door pull handle and remove the screws. Grab the door panel and tear it from the door. It will pop off of many push pegs. Ultimately the door will only be attached by the top strip and the wiring. Reach behind and disconnect the wiring, spin off retaining ring from speaker, withdraw speaker. Reinstallation is reverse. I could do it in ten minutes in the driveway. Less time than just going to a stereo shop. If you are anywhere near Baltimore, I can help do the job. Date: Sat, 03 Mar 2007 00:03:44 -0500 From: Mark Duckworth <mdlkml@atari-source.com> Subject: Head Gasket Success? Hey guys, I tightened down the oil filter housing, installed the new bosch +2 plugs, ignition boots and air injection, filled it with oil and coolant. It took almost 2 gallons but I don't think it's full yet. I pulled the fuel fuse and cranked it for 10 seconds in 3.5 second intervals. It cranked. No weird errors showing on the OBC. Hrmm. Could I really have got it right on the first try? No adjustments? I called my fiance out for the magic moment. I replaced the fuel fuse, turned the ignition off and on twice to get fuel flowing, turned to start and after maybe a second the engine roared to life making the most awful smells and tapping sounds that quickly subsided. Assuming that tapping was just oil starved cams which is what it sounded like for sure it seems that... tentatively, I really hope, success. We'll see after I manage to find my bleeder screw anyway :-P Question though. Would a bit of tapping for a couple seconds at first startup be normal as the oil gets flowing? The passenger side engine support arm (to the engine mount) is in the way, and won't allow the front manifold to fit over the studs. I've tried turning it every which way, checked that the studs were fully seated in the head, etc. Is there a trick to making it fit, or am I going to have to remove all the studs? #7. New Head Issues - from Mark Duckworth
Top
Date: Sat, 03 Mar 2007 21:40:21 -0500 From: Mark Duckworth <mdlkml@atari-source.com> Subject: New Head Issues Hey guys, As you've all known by my incessant emails, I've been in the process of replacing my head gasket. Last night I found the bleeder valve, finished filling the coolant which took almost 2.5 gallons so at least most of the system is full but for some reason I couldn't get any coolant to come out of the bleeder valve without filling the overflow tank REALLY full. I then had to drain off the excess to bring it down to the full cold mark. Maybe I'm being hyper sensitive, but this is what I'm noticing. No smoke from the exhaust, an odd smell which eventually went away which I believe was spilled coolant on the exhaust. Smoking from the exhaust that went away as the car warmed up. No leaks whatsoever under the car. The temperature climbed fairly quickly but evenly to the middle on the dash gauge and stayed. The upper radiator hose got pretty warm indicating coolant flow however, the heater only came up to 21.5C at first and then down to 18C and stayed there despite having it set to 90F on both sides. I suppose there's air in the system but I expected some heat. And finally the most worrying is that it's tapping. I can hear it mainly from the center and rear section of the valve cover. It doesn't sound THAT loud but it's fairly loud and rhythmic. There's definitely more than one tap and it almost sounds like a car I once rode in whose owner told me the tapping is due to high performance valve springs. Finally when I shut it off the cooling system seemed to lose pressure kind of quickly. But I never really sat around and squeezed cooling hoses for long after shutting a car off before after it barely warmed up. I'm afraid to drive it until I figure out the coolant situation and make sure it's full, and I was just wondering if the tapping is normal. I plan to call VAC on monday to talk to them but was just wondering if I could get your opinions awhile. Thanks, Mark

Should I be driving the car at 4000 RPM or just sitting in the garage?
