It's a 96 with OBDII but maybe it's just that many parts are affected by age much more than mileage. I probably have similar heat cycles to you guys, I just drive the car twice as long each time. And maybe mine are an upgraded part, or maybe they were replaced. Who knows. The car all around just doesn't feel 180K at all. Maybe my odometer is counting at triple the rate or something :-P Thanks, Mark

Especially if there was a lot of assembly lube used or if the head. Granted you didn't do a complete rebuild, but oil is cheap. Sort of. congrats Marco -----Original Message----- From: Mark D [mailto:mdlkml@atari-source.com] Sent: Monday, March 05, 2007 6:30 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [e36m3] Re: [E36M3] New Head Issues Date: Sun, 04 Mar 2007 21:26:04 -0500 From: Mark D <mdlkml@atari-source.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] New Head Issues Hey guys, Took care of the coolant, started the car today and let it warm up a little and then ran it at 4000 RPM for a minute. It didn't cure the tapping but it did get the heater core flowing. I didn't realize too but I had the top adjustment dial set on cold which was part of the no heat condition. So the tapping refused to stop so I just took it for a drive down the highway and varied between 2000-3000 RPM for about 5 miles. Once I got home it was quiet as a mouse. I drove the car to the mall 25 miles away and back and it was uneventful. I still can't find any leaks, the car has plenty of power so it seems I timed the VANOS right. I'm still in shock I did it right but it looks like I might be finished with this one. I'll get the oil changed in a couple days and put full synthetic back in. I'll start working on my writeup, which will probably be more of a quick reference and things to not forget. The OBDI sensors are Bosch and the OBDII ones are manufactured by Siemens if I remember correctly. Perhaps the Bosch ones used a lower quality plastic housing. Dave T.

Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2007 17:08:04 -0500 From: "Stan Shaw" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: sub frame/rear axle carrier bushings On a 96 M3 with 160k+ miles I finally got the sub frame / rear axle carrier out. I was really disappointed to find the bushings appear to be in pretty good shape. I only see a few micro cracks. Glad I am swapping in urethane, otherwise this looks to be a huge waste of time. I can post photos if anyone is interested. There is a precise programming dance you have to follow, but otherwise its cake after you have a few slices. I don't consider that too cheap. I ended up driving the car roughly 75 miles before changing the oil last night, but the assembly lube they used was more of a fine green oil rather than a grease so I don't think I had too much to worry about. Still feels better to have all the trim back on too. Thanks, Mark On Mon, 2007-03-05 at 09:31 -0800, Marco wrote: > If it were me I'd change the oil and filter before driving it anymore. > Especially if there was a lot of assembly lube used or if the head. > > Granted you didn't do a complete rebuild, but oil is cheap.
