I'm not saying that this is wrong, but I've done 17 track days in my M3 on HP+ pads without issue. And, this is the first I've heard of the pads failing when they reach their maximum operating temperature. Actually, it's the first I've heard of these pads failing, period. Again, you could be absolutely correct. I'm surprised that I've never heard anything of this sort before, and a tad bit skeptical. I'll do some Internet searches, if time permits. Do you have any resources that could back this up? My M3 is pretty much retired from track duty (although I say this frequently and then take it on track again), but I imagine it would benefit others on this list. Yes, they're noisy at first and more dusty than some, but they work excellently for street / track duty and wear very slowly. I am aggressive on the brakes and have never had them fade - unlike the OEM pads. I've used HP+, albeit on a different car, and they had all the negatives of the 2500s, to boot. They're dustier and noiser than the OEM pads or the Hawk HPS or the 2500s. I did not get the catastrophic fade mentioned, but I wore out a new set of HP+ pads in one track day. The HP+ material is not designed for track day wear - it is designed for autocross. They do have good initial bite and would well in that limited situation. Gus

I suppose some of this depends on your level of track driving. I think once you hit a certain level no street/track pad is going to make you happy because they just can't function properly under the heavy stress at the track. That being said, when I started my track driving the first pad I switched to was PF Z-rated pad. They were great on the street and performed pretty well on the track (back when the car was still bone stock). I was pretty happy with those pads. They didn't squeal during street driving, they wore well and I don't think the brake dust was caustic like the PF 97s. - Larry -------------------- 8 -------------------- > Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2007 21:40:14 -0500 > From: "W. I'd appreciate some help understanding what it means and ultimately, some idea of how much of a problem I have on my hands. What came up on the Peake tool was page 16 code FE. What I see in the manual is "Intake camshaft VANOS sealing, Cyl #5-8", which I'm just realizing is kind of odd as I've got a 6 cylinder car... Maybe it's just a generic label for bank two? Any help appreciated... Thanks Gus

I don't have any resources, testing-wise, that I can point you to. The information I posted was gathered from some club racers I know and based on conversations I had with Dave Zeckhausen. - http://zeckhausen.com/ - he is a wealth of information, and is very chatty when he has the time. It was not my intention to cast dispersions on your opinion, to be sure, but I just wanted to pass on information that I've heard. -jeff ____________________________________________________________________________________ Need Mail bonding? I'd say that's probably the likely culprit, but then again I don't know what intake camshaft VANOS sealing could mean. Thanks, Mark
