#3. 1995 M3 Knock Sensor #2 - from M540

Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2007 14:36:15 -0500 From: "M540" <m540@bellsouth.net> Subject: 1995 M3 Knock Sensor #2 I have a very intermittent CEL showing up on our 1995 M3 Coupe and the pedal trick returns code 1226 "Knock Sensor #2". I've Googled this high and low and cannot find any kind of write-up on repairing/replacing knock sensors. Does anyone know if such a write-up exists? Also, since apparently this car has two knock sensors do you know how I might tell which is Number Two? Thank you in advance, Kevin

Also, since > apparently this car has two knock sensors do you know how I might tell > which is Number Two? You need to remove the intake manifold to access the sensors. Once its removed its real easy to change out the sensors. Number two is the one close to the firewall, but you will want to change both of them anyway, the other is probably at the end of its life as well. Be sure you don't overtighten the sensors when you bolt them to the block...the Bentley lists the correct torque...its not very much. Dave
