#1. Carbotech Pads - from Jonathan Evans

Reasons: Carbotech gave our NC club a discount and they create a lot less dust than the stock pads. I've been very pleased. I did hear that the company has changed hands recently. Haven't dealt with them since. -95M3Jonathan

#2. Bent Front Subrame Mounting Point - from Mike DePolo

Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2007 15:22:13 -0500 From: "Mike DePolo" <smiked1@gmail.com> Subject: Bent Front Subrame Mounting Point I'm in process of piecing my car back together after my accident in January. I've finished the rear suspension. In the rear it needed a new half shaft and lower control arm. In the front I wasn't as lucky. The control arm unfortunately did not bend. This caused the front subframe to collapse at the ball joint. I'm currently attempting to install a new subframe, but the front mounting point on the passenger side is bent. The frame rail itself seems to be straight, as does the rest of the front of the car. The cup and with threaded insert is cocked at on angle. You can see the cracked paint and bulge around it where it's deformed. I've tried inserting a bolt and using a long pipe to bend it back into place and striking it with a large dead bow hammer, but it just wont move. Anyone have any suggestions on how to straighten this out? More force, bigger hammer, apply heat? If I have to, I'll cut or drill it out and weld in a new point from a donor car; but I'm thinking there must be some way to bend this back into place. It only needs to move a few millimeters. Anyone ever seen this before? I would assume it's a common issue when people hit curbs. I was surprised I did this much damage considering I didn't hit anything with the front of the car or the suspension. The front wheel planted itself in some soft soil, very similar to an off track excursion. Thanks. Mike

The connector on the light body is the screw-in type, and has 5 wires. Four of them match color-wise with the 4 wires in the 9005/9006 connectors. The fifth wire is heavy gauge and red. Any ideas what that needs to be hooked to? Thanks. -Pete 98 M3/4

Barbieri" <larry@logicalconclusions.com> Subject: RE: exhaust manifold studs Well, having just been down this road a few weeks back let me offer my advice. First, I shocked that any studs backed out! That's amazing, I broke 2 of mine and had absolutely no luck at getting them out of the manifold despite days of effort with every conceivable removal technique. You are correct; the studs for the '95 are quite cheap, I think less than $2 each. Don't forget, if you are member of the CCA many dealers give a discount on parts, 10-20%. There may be a better way to install the studs; there is a stud installation/removal socket you can get. But I think in this case the 2 nut method will be sufficient. I doubt you'll need loctite on the studs. But anti-seize on the nuts is always a good idea. The torque spec for those nuts is 22lb-ft. Good Luck! Carey, No, he is referring to the actual backing plate that the pad material is adhered to. You send it to them and they will copy it. Porterfield will do the same thing....or at least they used to, I never had that done but I assume they still will. For Roy's concern (it seems) regarding StopTech fitment, I would be surprised if they don't make it already, it is also a common Porsche fitment. If you are interested in trying a track pad I would recommend the Porterfield R4. It is simply the best beginner/intermediate track pad I've ever used/recommended. Excellent wear, great stopping power, works across a wide heat range (by experience, not just a chart), easy on rotors even when cold (I drove a set on my iX for an entire year, including winter with no issues other than accelerated wear - outside of temp range), reasonably priced. I have recommended them to many people and all have provided positive feedback. They are a track pad, not a dual duty (if there is such a thing, never seen one) or high perf street pad. If your car is driven to and from the track these are perfect, you do not need to change rotors/pads for such a drive. You will experience the side effects of using a track pad on the street of course...more dust, squealing, accelerated wear) but for trips to/fro this is hardly an issue. The dust is not corrosive either. From my experience above, I drove mine through the winter even and when I had the car detailed the wheels cleaned up nearly as new. If you also need a set of street pads pick up something like a ceramic from Hawk or Akebono. If you really don't want a track pad then your best bet is the HP+ but it's still a street pad. In fact it is a street pad with track pad downsides...dusty, noisy....and it's ok on the track. I purchased the car with 114K miles, built it into the race car but with a career change, will not be racing for a while. Hence the car is for sale. I will be taking the car out for a DE weekend (instructing) at Road Atlanta to shake it out (and fine tune the alignment if need be) but the car has never been raced. Car is streetable. Car was built by Racer's Mart (owner Michael McCoy Bimmerforums screen name Techno550) and maintained by Bernardo Payet (Payet Motorsports) so its not a home built racer. Have receipts and records. No drama. Car needs NOTHING and with the rear fold down seats, it can be driven to and from the track with no need for a trailer. AC in the paddocks and would drive the car to work as well. Save money on trailer/truck. Car passes Georgia stringent inspection; hence is registered as a street driven car. Stickers are not permanent and are on magnets. Apply on apply off.
