Indeed, 10% for non-bmw cars and I believe 15% or 20% for the real thing. I also used their R4-S pads on the street for several years switching between them and the R4 pads for track days. If you order from Porterfield and mention you're on Suzy's list you'll get a nice discount. If you are interested in trying a track pad I would recommend the Porterfield R4. It is simply the best beginner/intermediate track pad I've ever used/recommended. Excellent wear, great stopping power, works across a wide heat range (by experience, not just a chart), easy on rotors even when cold (I drove a set on my iX for an entire year, including winter with no issues other than accelerated wear - outside of temp range), reasonably priced. I have recommended them to many people and all have provided positive feedback. They are a track pad, not a dual duty (if there is such a thing, never seen one) or high perf street pad. If your car is driven to and from the track these are perfect, you do not need to change rotors/pads for such a drive.. You will experience the side effects of using a track pad on the street of course...more dust, squealing, accelerated wear) but for trips to/fro this is hardly an issue. The dust is not corrosive either. From my experience above, I drove mine through the winter even and when I had the car detailed the wheels cleaned up nearly as new. If you also need a set of street pads pick up something like a ceramic from Hawk or Akebono. If you really don't want a track pad then your best bet is the HP+ but it's still a street pad. In fact it is a street pad with track pad downsides...dusty, noisy....and it's ok on the track. Excellent wear, gentle on rotors. That is where I started. I never took them off the car. The noise was not bothersome to me, dusted a lot but wipes right off. On the street to/from the track was fine. Drove mine to work often in good weather and those pads were amazing on the street too. Just watch what's behind you :-) --Bill 96 m3 coupe

Ok, so the wonderful PO of my car removed the vent tube and battery hold down for some reason...yes, the battery was just knocking around the compartment. Sigh. Anyway, I'm ordering up new parts and RealOEM shows the hold down plate (see #8 below), but does not list a screw/bolt for it. Can anybody shed some light on that? Does the hold down part come with the bolt? Just go to the hardware store? http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CD93&mospid=47504&btnr=61_0065&hg=61&fg=30 Thanks. -Pete 98 M3/4

I picked up a battery tender for what I am fairly certain is my original (6/97) battery. Any concerns, never really used one before, just have to remember to unplug it before I pull the car out for garage access. Besides adding gas preservative, "STABIL" what else should be done? I have to admit I don't remember if the tank is steel and thus should be filled up to prevent condensation rusting.... Any other pseudo storage requirements? Currently it gets started about 1 every two weeks, but it hasn't seen the street in 2 mths at least since I got the gas mizer. I am also soliciting ideas for my car's 10th birthday in June..... Why do you start it every two weeks? You're only doing damage by not fully exercising it and getting it up to operating temperature. I've heard most people say to take the car out, exercise it to get everything up to operating temp. Hopefully you're near empty so you add the fuel stabilizer, fill up the tank, then get home and change the oil and leave the car alone. Don't start it every two weeks. You'll only add moisture to the oil and, I think, make the oil more acidic. Or you can just give me your car (I'm only one state away) and I'll take care of it ;) Chester --- "Goss, Patrick - PA" <Patrick.Goss@GMACM.COM> wrote: > Besides adding gas preservative, "STABIL" what else should be done?
