I have driven cars on the street with fixed back seats long enough to know I don't want to on a daily driver. Besides, full race seats would look odd in the grocery getter! James, If you don't mind a race seat the Recaro SPG XL would probably be a good fit for you. I don't think you're too tall for them and otherwise the fit should be good. I've had good luck wih these especially for people wanting equal seating in their DE cars but maybe fit better or prefer the tighter seat for the driver. The XL provides a wider range of use for everyone else. Just something to consider. I have the Recaro Speed, successor and seemingly identical to the SRD. Nice appearance, very good shape, lumbar support insert. As streetable seats go (folding back etc.) they're very good for track use, spirited driving, and for road journeys up to a couple of hours. After that there's some developing discomfort only because they're snug enough that you really can't change position. I'm also a 36" waist, but at 6 ft. tall somewhat shorter than James is. The limiting factor is really hip width rather than waist size. Neil Fort Wayne, IN 96 M3 - Bastard child 03 525iT - Sterling Grey Metallic 05 Mini - Cooper S with LSD

#3. AC system replacement procedure, tips? - from bnmhead-bmw@yahoo.com

Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2007 14:47:11 -0700 (PDT) From: <bnmhead-bmw@yahoo.com> Subject: AC system replacement procedure, tips? The AC compressor on my car has died - I have a replacement along with a new receiver-drier, expansion valve, and o-rings. The system doesn't have any refridgerent in it right now. I'm planning on following the Bently manual instructions, removing the old parts that I have new ones for, blowing out the system with canned air (rather than air from a compressor to avoid introducing moisture) putting it all back together, having the system evacuated and then charged. Anything I'm missing or have wrong, or tips on how to do it more easily? Thanks! Barrett '95 325i

For front end links, you'll need to remove the wheel so that you can remove the end link from the strut. Also, you'll want a thin 16mm wrench to hold the ball joint of the end link while you remove it (shoulda mentioned that for the sway bar end as well, sorry). One from a bicycle shop works quite well (that's what I have). Rear ones also need the wheel to come off. The end link is attached the rear control arm. A bit awkward to get to, but not bad. Jim Bassett - back out to complete the detailing on the M3 :-)

On the "thin wrench" subject, I found that my Gear Wrenches were just thin enough to get in there; they touch the boot on the endlink but don't harm them. My regular Craftsman wrenches are thicker, really not thin enough to get around the boot. Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2007 12:02:32 -0500 From: "Resener, Kurt" <KurtResener@IamMorrison.com> Subject: Re: Seats I can vouch for the Recaro SPG XL, I'm 6'1 and weigh in at around 200 so the regular SPG was too tight a fit for me and the Pole Position's shoulder belts were too low for my height. The SPG fits in my '95 M3 with a little bit of room to spare and the lower position gives me that extra bit of headroom I needed not to rub my helmet on the roof. Amazing how I never really felt uncomfortable, on the track anyway, in my Vaders; but after having the car at Road Atlanta a couple weeks ago for the first time with the SPG XL I really felt so much more secure and planted in the car. #11. OT: Garage improvements - from J Files
Top
Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2007 11:24:48 -0700 From: "J Files" <jsf.online@gmail.com> Subject: OT: Garage improvements Off Topic... The lighting in my garage sucks. While there are a couple hanging fluorescents, they are inadequate for actually seeing what I am working on, whether it be the (obligatory bmw content) M3, 325, Jeep, a bike, or any number of other garage projects. It is not a large garage by any means - 2.5 car width, single story height, typically holds the two BMWs, a bunch of bikes, jog stroller, washer & dryer, workbench, secondary fridge, a wall of storage, etc. After having a water problem upstairs in March, I am now in the unenviable position of needing a new ceiling in my garage. Two questions for the group: 1) Any recommendations of specific built-in lighting for a garage? 2) Aside from adding decent lighting, any thoughts on items that should be put in the ceiling while the drywall is full of holes? Still drying, but working with insurance and contractors already, Jim
