I re-install the stock airbox so as to pass the visual inspection, but have not had to revert to stock DME programming. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

Additionally, however, why would an intake automatically fail you from the visual inspection? I don't think it's supposed to (in CA). It passed, I'm good for two years. I don't think it's supposed to (in CA). See your first paragraph :-) The JimC intake is NOT CARB-certified, and will not pass the visual inspection. Jim Bassett

#7. Smog w/Conforti Chip - from Kirk

Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2007 19:46:15 -0700 From: "Kirk" <admranger@earthlink.net> Subject: Smog w/Conforti Chip You'll pass fine with the Conforti chip. You need to do the following regardless of which chip is in your car: get the cat hot prior to arriving at the test station. If there's a long line, find another station or another time or, an annoying solution for those around you, rev the car to 3k rpm for several minutes before the test. Cold cat = fail. Warm cat = pass. If my race car can pass smog w/a mix of 100 octane and 91 octane gas (roughly 93 to 94 octane target) and a Conforti chip, you can pass with 91 octane pump gas. When the cat is hot, it blows nearly zeros for HC and NOx. Cold cat and it barely passes (and I mean barely). Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

They get about $15-20 more than average but your in and out in 20 minutes. Actually taking the M3 there tomorrow. "Just Smogs" in Huntington Beach btw.... Dave
