Both roughly the same order of magnitude from a $$ POV, and both more than I spent on my M3 :) -----Original Message----- From: DocWyte [mailto:docwyte@comcast.net] Sent: Friday, April 06, 2007 4:01 PM To: Scott Cc: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] RE: P-cars and M-cars I agree with some of your points, but a good friend of mine has run his german car garage for over 30 years now. He had a 993tt with 17k miles on it and completely rebuilt the heads on it. According to him, that's a common thing and when I commented that I'd seen alot of the older 930 and 964 turbos with rebuilt motors after only 30-40k miles, he said that's also a fairly common interval for a major rebuild. For a job like that at his shop it's still close to $15k, hardly chump change... So to me, that shows that the earlier air cooled turbo charged 911's aren't really any more reliable than the newer versions. The rear main seal is definately an annoyance, especially since they've known about it since 2001... I checked and you can sell a used cat legally if it is in certifiable working condition. Being a private sale, I am happy if it works. Need it for my a 97 M3 Sedan and it will have to pass PA emissions. Located north of Philly and often travel up through Northeast PA and all of NJ. #4. Resetting Check Engine Light - from trmptdc@aol.com
Top
Date: Sat, 07 Apr 2007 13:35:40 -0400 From: trmptdc@aol.com Subject: Resetting Check Engine Light Recently, my engine stumbled slightly after a cold start after sitting for a few days. The check engine light came on. The engine seems to be running fine now and I suspect this was a one time thing that triggered the light. I tried to cancel the light by disconnecting the battery, but that did not work. I want to see if it comes on again, if it does, then I will take more definitive action. Is there any way to reset this without using a reset device (peake)? I am tempted to just go ahead and buy a FCX reset tool, but in the meantime, any way to reset it for now? (This is the first time the check engine light has ever come on). My car has 56K on it. Thanks! AFAIK, there's no way to clear stored codes unless you have a tool. You can probably take your car to Autozone (or local equivalent). They may have a code reader they'll use for free to read/clear the light. Some independent shops will also pull codes for free...just takes a few minutes and is good customer relations. :-) The Peake tools are good for basic code reading and clearing. More advanced tools will allow you to run diagnostics, monitor/record sensor data, etc. Just depends on what you want. -Pete On 4/7/07, trmptdc@aol.com <trmptdc@aol.com> wrote: > > Date: Sat, 07 Apr 2007 13:35:40 -0400 > From: trmptdc@aol.com > Subject: Resetting Check Engine Light > > Recently, my engine stumbled slightly after a cold start after sitting for > a few days. So in addition to apparently successfully completing the head repair (YAY), I managed to pull out the ground wire from one my ZKW headlight connectors. These are the round euro-type ones. Anybody know how to disassemble those connectors so I can get the ground hooked back up? Thanks. -Pete
