For about $250 you can do any and all resets, plus if you carry a laptop or PDA in the car you can log engine performance and calculate HP. I've used one for years on my '97 and I am about to try it on my '06. http://www.autoenginuity.com/products.html Jerry Helffrich'97 M3/4 Arctic White '06 M3 CiC Carbon Black -------------------- 4 -------------------- Date: Sat, 07 Apr 2007 13:35:40 -0400 From: trmptdc@aol.com Subject: Resetting Check Engine Light Recently, my engine stumbled slightly after a cold start after sitting for a few days. The check engine light came on. The engine seems to be running fine now and I suspect this was a one time thing that triggered the light. I tried to cancel the light by disconnecting the battery, but that did not work. I want to see if it comes on again, if it does, then I will take more definitive action. Is there any way to reset this without using a reset device (peake)? I am tempted to just go ahead and buy a FCX reset tool, but in the meantime, any way to reset it for now? (This is the first time the check engine light has ever come on). My car has 56K on it. Thanks! How easy or difficult is this do do in the driveway? Is this something I'm going to be sorry if I try to do myself, or is it a piece of cake? Should I leave this to the pros who might have a hydraulic press (I do not)? What would I expect to be the cost of such an operation if performed by an auto shop? Thanks, Mel Silva Houston, TX 97 M3 Sedan (prepping for sale)

You can get the old bushing out of the lollypop with a drill (or a torch) and a hacksaw. You can press the new bushing in with a vice (or a hammer and some blocks of wood). It's bruce force, but it works. -- Adam Lazur

Then I took them to the local auto parts shop that has a press, and for $10.00 they popped out both old bushings. They would have been happy to press in the new ones, but I went to Delrin, so there was no need. It was well worth the $10.00. Otherwisse, it's brute force methods. Does this set-up have the ability to report A/F ratios, or does that require a special sender/gauge unit, apart from the 02 sensors? Also, does this set-up allow you to make changes to the DME or is it strictly diagnostic in nature? I did need an air chisel to get the old bushing out of the lollipop. I didn't remove the control arm so getting the new one on was a bear. A huge huge bear. I don't know how I would have gotten that done without the car on the lift. Just my $0.02. Thanks, Mark

A really big C-clamp with the end ground down so it can fit into one of the holes in the control arms can be used to push the new bushings on with the arm mounted on the car. You can push them on flush with the clamp then add a 17-19MM socket to the mix to get it pushed on the rest of the way. You can get a big enough clamp from H.F. for about $10. That is the method I use when I leave the arm on the car...but I have a 30 ton press so I normally just take them off and use the press.... Dave
